xqjoesgw Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 I searched the forum and found one post that came close top answering my question but it didn't not clear things up entirely. I have a domain (www.CampCroft.org) which is NOT provided by TCH. I have a web site on TCH at campcroft.schistory.net and I would like the domain to point to that subdomain. Now I know I can go to my domain name provider and ask them to point www.CampCroft.org to NS1/NS2.TOTALCHOICEHOSTING.COM but how will TCH know to transfer that to my site? I was paying $24.95 for web forwarding but I wanted to know if there was a cheaper (free) alternative that TCH offers. Your thoughts? Thanks, RON CRAWLEY Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 Hi and welcome to the forum. Pointing domain names to subdomains or folders would be a violation of the AUP if you have a virtual account. On a reseller account this would be allowed. Quote
xqjoesgw Posted July 11, 2005 Author Posted July 11, 2005 Wow, you guys sure know how to make a person feel welcome ... thanks! Back to Thomas's reply: I am not sure I understand. I assume you are saying that a redirect from a domain to a web site hosted at TotalChoice is ALLOWED but not SUPPORTED by my current level of service, correct? I mean there is no reason I cannot have a web forwarding service redirect www.campcroft.org to www.schistory.net/campcroft/index.html, right? Thanks again, RON CRAWLEY Quote
TCH-Andy Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 Hi Ron, That would not be allowed. You can park campcroft.org on top of schistory.net so it pointed at exactly the same files, but you can not have it pointing to schistory.net/campcroft/index.html or differentiate the files based on the domain name. xqjoesgw Posted July 11, 2005 Author Posted July 11, 2005 Andy, I would be OK with a redirect to schistory.net/, in fact that may be preferred. Is there any way for TCH to make that redirect for me, assuming I have www.campcroft.org set up with DSN servers NS1 & NS2 TOTALCHOICEHOSTING.COM? Or do I still need to engage a third party to do the redirect/forwarding? Thanks once again, RON CRAWLEY Quote
GroovyFish Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 Hi Ron, To park your campcroft.org domain on schistory.net then all you need to do is to change the dns (looks like you may have already done this) and send in a support ticket and ask them to park that domain on your account. HTH! Quote
xqjoesgw Posted July 15, 2005 Author Posted July 15, 2005 Well, I am getting there (I think). I now have my DNS server for the campcroft.org domain set up us NS1.TOTALCHOICEHOSTING.COM and I put in a request to park my domain on TCH (ticket BGA-93556). I got a reply saying "Please check out now. I have parked the domain campcroft.org on top of your main domain schistory.net as per your request. Let us know if you need any other help." Well, when I try to pull up www.campcroft.org in my browser, I get a "Error 501/505 - Not implemented or not supported". So what do I still need to do in order to get this domain to point to www.schistory.net? Thanks again, RON CRAWLEY Quote
TCH-Don Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 I am only seeing one DNS name server http://www.whois.sc/campcroft.org Name Server:NS1.TOTALCHOICEHOSTING.COM Name Server: for CAMPCROFT.ORG How long ago did you make the DNS change for CAMPCROFT.ORG You can reopen your help ticket to get more help. xqjoesgw Posted July 15, 2005 Author Posted July 15, 2005 Don, I requested the DNS change back on the 11th but now I see what you mean, only one DNS server is assigned. I will make a second request and once it is propogated I will reopen the TCH ticket. Does that sound reasonable to you? RON CRAWLEY Quote
TCH-Don Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 Ron, once you get the DNS set up correctly and if it still does not resolve, then yes open a help ticket. Quote
