aias42 Posted May 4, 2003 Posted May 4, 2003 I want to set up an ftp for my friends to come to and download stuff. I don't want to give them write permission, and I want them to have to log in to get the files, like with their first name as the login name and last name as a password. Thanks BL Quote
section31 Posted May 6, 2003 Posted May 6, 2003 hm, I'm not sure I understand your question. If you want to make your computer into an ftp server. U can try bulletproofFTP or ServUFTP. Those seem to be the most the popular. If you want to use your site and make that into an ftp server where friends use it as a file server, That violates the AUP, so don't even try. Quote
shammer Posted May 7, 2003 Posted May 7, 2003 he said that he does not want to give them write permission, so he will just be serving files. I don't think this violates the TCH policies as this is exactly what FTP is designed for. You can create ftp accounts in cpanel under FTP-Manage accounts. Quote
TCH-JimE Posted May 7, 2003 Posted May 7, 2003 Hi, Create a folder. Password manange it in CPANEL. Then remove the index file from it and remove index manager using CPANEL for this folder. Then create the users in the password manager. Bingo. You then have a folder which is protected via passwords and they can see the folders only. Remember it will eat up your bandwidth as ftp is included within it Jim Quote
KevinW Posted May 12, 2003 Posted May 12, 2003 Jim - nice, clear answer. I went ahead and added it to the FTP page on the TCH Help Web Site. Click here! -kw Quote
