SpdWife Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 I've read a lot about making sure that your page load time doesn't take longer than 10 seconds or you'll likely lose visitors before you get them. It's been a year since I've used dial-up so I was wondering what page size is "safe" to quickly load for dial-up users? Currently my pages are about 10K in size. Quote
TCH-Don Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 Firefox has a nice extension called Web Developer that has Web Page Speed Report it shows the load times for various connections. example: Diagnosis Global Statistics Total HTTP Requests: 4 Total Size: 24468 bytes Object Size Totals Object type Size (bytes) HTML: 3411 HTML Images: 16423 CSS Images: 0 Total Images: 16423 java script: 0 CSS: 4634 Multimedia: 0 Other: 0 External Objects External Object QTY Total HTML: 1 Total HTML Images: 2 Total CSS Images: 0 Total Images: 2 Total Scripts: 0 Total CSS imports: 1 Total Frames: 0 Total Iframes: 0 Download Times* Connection Rate Download Time 14.4K 19.16 seconds 28.8K 9.68 seconds 33.6K 8.33 seconds 56K 5.08 seconds ISDN 128K 1.69 seconds T1 1.44Mbps 0.33 seconds Quote

When I use my ftp to transfer the files over it says the page is 10K. Am I not understanding this? My index page has very little on it when it comes to images, just the main logo and a few buttons on the naviagation. Quote

You have to add the index, images and anything else you put in the page style sheet, javascript, etc. For your page: Object Size TotalsObject type Size (bytes) HTML: 8386 HTML Images: 122932 CSS Images: 0 Total Images: 122932 java script: 0 CSS: 0 Multimedia: 0 Other: 0 Quote
Pendragon Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 I tried that link, entered my URL and it never responded... Quote
SpdWife Posted April 8, 2005 Author Posted April 8, 2005 Okay, I guess I didn't count the images. I don't use a style sheet. There is some javascrpt but not much. I guess I'll have to resize some images. Thanks. Quote
SpdWife Posted April 8, 2005 Author Posted April 8, 2005 As I started checking all of my pages I came across this in the analysis... 1 Not found IMG http://www.policewivesonline.com/HTTP://ww...rgeantsgirl.png I went back to check my coding and it did not contain the extra URL it's showing there. Any reason why it would by saying that? Quote
