Google Adds Satellite Views

Yes, Google read my mind. Their map pages were better than Yahoo or Mapqwest in that you could "drag" the maps to get a better surrounding view. I thought it would be cool if they would also include the satellite views also. Well now there is an option in the upper right corner to see the space view. Too bad this only works in the U.S..

Now the next best thing they could do is let you superimpose both maps. Maybe they will read my mind again.

The color is neat, but the angle view makes it hard to see detail.

The Terraserver stuff is pretty old. What my neighborhood looked like in June 1994, and what it looks like a little more recently. A lot happens in a Vegas Decade.

 

Note: By the way, that's not my address. It's a school in the general vicinity. So don't come looking for me there.

All I'm going to say is that from Pendragon's link (which goes a step closer than Google Maps), I could see the jumper course a competing barn, figure out how high they were set, tell a horse was in the middle of jumping the course, and, at my old barn, tell that they were getting ready to trailer horses somewhere, which horses were turned out in the paddocks, and that while the outdoor ring wasn't being used for lessons it was being used for turnout.

 

Did I really need to know all this? Even if the data is two years old? I don't think so.

 

Although the jumper course is mildly interesting and has some fun-looking lines in it.

I did notice that on the google maps, some areas had detail, but most areas didn't.

 

Why they have 1m detail of the navy base, but not of residential areas I don't know.

Ahh yes, a Vegas Decade...

 

Things have changed quite a bit in my 7 years here...

These maps are still a bit old. The satellite imagery of UNLV in Vegas is old, at least by 3 years.
