One of our clients receives huge mail attachments and requires a lot of disk space. Since disk space is 'relatively' expensive, this is what I propose to do:

The client wants 4 email addresses where they will receive mail. I will setup the accounts and also setup 4 gmail accounts for them. I will then forward the mail to the respective gmail accounts. The client can use POP3 to download their mail from gmail and use the SMTP of their domain to send mail.

Does anyone know off any cons in doing this or will TCH have any objections?

One of the mods will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe when you set up a forwarder that it keeps a copy of the e-mail on the server at the original address as well, even when downloaded through a pop3 account. At least mine did when I forwarded my mail to my Verizon account which I accessed through Outlook. I had to go into my TCH webmail every so often and clean it out.

Another workaround could be to set up an FTP user account for your client. I work with GIS and often have very large map files that I need to get to/from a particular client. I set up an FTP site, give the client the UID and password, and then whenever there is a large file involved, I simply send a quick note (or recieve a quick note) in email, then download/upload the file(s). Once they have been transferred, they can be deleted, freeing up space.

bellringr,

If you are forwarding mail from one address to another, don't create a mailbox for the address you are forwarding. This way the mail will be forwarded but will not be stored. eg: if you setup mail sent to xyz to go to abc, don't create an xyz mailbox.

msb, you are correct. If you create forwards and no account the mail will just pass through the server and sent to where it is forwarded too.

I don't see a problem with what you want to do.

Remember, the e-mails will still add to the bandwidth

and I would caution them not to give the addy to just anyone least it gets spammed

and TCH gets the blame from gmail.

just something to keep in mind.

msb - I know, but you had mentioned setting up four e-mail accounts (rather than just the forwards) which is why I mentioned it. :clapping:

I had mine forwarded just for ease of access rather than having to check two accounts. I don't always want to give out my home account.
