Hey everyone. I hope this post finds you all well.

I know i have seen a similar post to this one, but for the life of me i can't find it. I have configured my email to microsoft outlook and set the send/receive properties to check for new emails every minute. 30-40 minutes later i began receiving an error saying that I had logged in too many times for that hour.

What is the limit on amount of times per hour that you can check your email? Is there an option in cpanel where you can increase this? I am not really worried about bandwidth as the site itself does not use too much. My client specified that she would like to check for new emails every minute or 2.

Thanks.

Again, sorry if this has already been discussed.

To ensure that you do not cause server issues, I would not check more than once every 3 mins, and ideally 5. This is not a hard limit, but one that I have found works well. If you start checking every minute it does start to cause problems.

Most servers do not have a limit imposed on pop3 connections per hour. Some however in fact do. This really just depends on the users on the server.

With that said, if we did impose limits on a server that limit would be set to 30 checks per hour, or once ever 2 minutes.

However, there is no reason why any person should be checking e-mail once per two minutes. I took a help desk ticket the other day went something like this.

I can't view my site and my e-mail doesn't work.

After some investigation the following was learned.

Client had 37 e-mail account in c-panel and each one was set to check e-mail once per minute. Do the math. That is 2,200 connections per hour to the server. Our firewall didn't like that and firewalled off the clients IP.

This is the bottom line.

Tell your client to set the per minute checks to once every 5 or 10 minutes. Anything lower is simply abusive.

Thanks for the responses guys.

The site only has two email accounts as it is a small company. I will let her know that there are limits because of firewall issues.

With that being said, I am looking to create another website for a larger company. This particular client would like to have all his employees utilize the email accounts (25-30 accounts). That would be ~215 times per hour with a limit set at 7 minutes (which i think is pretty fair). Could I set them up through my reseller account or would I need to look into purchasing a different account (through TCH of course B) )?

I think if you follow what Bill said that things will be good. The longer the better of course, but 7 minutes falls into the guidline he gave to you earlier today.

It sounds like you understand the impact that this can have on the server and the other people who share the same resources. If we all play nice then everyone will be happy. :D

Just my 2 cents here ... B)

I have a business site and we check email every 10-15 minutes. There's not really a reason to check it more often. We do most of our business using email. It has never been a problem.

It's not like we are following the stock market.
