mdedens Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 Hi, I have a reseller account, but would like to get some information. I was recently doing some research on Search Engine Optimization, and was informed about needing to change the subnet IPs of domains that link to each other when hosted on the same server. Or we risk being penalized by the search engines. I was wondering if this is possible to do on my TCH server VHs? Please let me know if this is possible, and if there are any costs involved. Cost is another issue, some places only charge $1/month, some are free. I'm still a little vague on the issue, but was thinking that buying a different IP address for one of my domains would work, but I really don't know if that's the same thing as just changing something called the "SUBNET" of the domain? Thanks for any help. ~Mike Quote
Guest Serpentine Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 TCH follows ARIN guidelines. The only sites that will be sold dedicated IPs are Reseller accounts that use Private Name Servers SSL Sites Anon FTP Sites (Dedicated Servers Only) Quote
MikeJ Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 I was recently doing some research on Search Engine Optimization, and was informed about needing to change the subnet IPs of domains that link to each other when hosted on the same server. Or we risk being penalized by the search engines. I was wondering if this is possible to do on my TCH server VHs? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> IP address uniqueness for search engine ranking I generally consider to be a misconception by the SEO conspiracy theorists. Craig Silverstein, Director of Technology at Google, for example, has publically stated that shared IP's do not affect their ranking nor banning of sites. 5) Google and IP address.by Anonymous Coward Why in this day and age does google continue to penalize sites that are virtual hosted? With ip addresses becoming harder to get/justify every day why does google discount the relevance of links that don't come from a unique ip address. Please don't just deny it, I think the Internet community deserves an explanation. Craig: I can't just deny it? What are my other choices? [] Actually, Google handles virtually hosted domains and their links just the same as domains on unique IP addresses. If your ISP does virtual hosting correctly, you'll never see a difference between the two cases. We do see a small percentage of ISPs every month that misconfigure their virtual hosting, which might account for this persistent misperception--thanks for giving me the chance to dispel a myth! mdedens Posted March 6, 2005 Author Posted March 6, 2005 Hi, I have a Reseller Account. How does one get setup to use Private Name Servers? This may not even be what I'm looking for? In regards to MikeJ's post about Craig's post... Thanks for dispelling a myth, however it bothers me that Craig mentions some VHs just aren't set up correctly. In my mind that leaves a huge ? for any possibility, and the myth is again substantiated. So what does he mean by "misconfigured" VHs? And if a VH is misconfigured, does that mean a Links Back penalty acutally does exist? I'm assuming that MikeJ knows what he means, and that TCH is NOT misconfigured, so there really isn't a problem. But still, how can a VH be misconfigured. I guess this just for my own knowledge, and could possibly be applied to a different web host I'm in the process of transferring sites from. How would I know if they just had my VHs "misconfigured"? Thanks for your help. ~Mike Quote
mdedens Posted March 8, 2005 Author Posted March 8, 2005 So any TCH guys gonna answer EITHER of my posts??? Or do I have to write up a support ticket? Either tell me how your VHs are not "misconfigured" or tell me how to go about getting some VH domains hosted on different subnets AND the costs involved. Thank You! ~Mike Quote
TCH-Rick Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 The Virtual Hosts here are configured fine. I am not completely sure what the previous quote meant by misconfigured but would suspect it would have to do with not returning the DOCUMENT_ROOT correctly or similar problems. Quote
