Butler Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 I've talked very briefly already with the help desk, but still want to go a step further. Most importantly, I do not understand the technical side of hosting or how one moves all the files/data/databases from one host to yours here at TCH. Please keep that in mind. I simply want someone to step up and take full responsiblity to make certain all pages/database/whatever is 100% successfully transferred over from my current cpanel host to yours. I've been told that large websites may be more of a challenge. Mine is 87 pages. Your team suggested I back up my files. I don't know how to do that. Again, I want someone to step up to the plate and do this. I am willing to pay for this to be done correctly. Since I don't have the knowledge to fix mistakes or overcome TRANSFER challenges, you can appreciate I just want it done by someone that will do it right completely so that all functions of my site work. I'd just prefer to pay your team. But if you can't, then I'll have to postpone the account activation until I find someone. I would LOVE to make the move asap. Then do the same thing on another site later. (poopbutler.com) is the site. java script:emoticon('') smilie Quote
TCH-Andy Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 Hi Butler, Welcome to the Family I've checked your tickets, and you say you currently use cpanel, so we can transfer it relatively easily. Please open a ticket at the help desk (link at top of page) and include the login details for your account here, and the login details for the old host, and we will move it for you. Quote
TCH-RobertM Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 Hello Butler, Welcome to the forums You have a really nice site and as Andy as stated your site would be a good candidate for Cpanel to Cpanel transfer. I was following your site and came across something you may or may not have seen. If you go to any of the state pages and click on where it says My Oso Pip's Pet Memorial It will bring you to a broken Link. I believe this is a simple typo in the code where you have the following code the link in your code references a .html file and not the actual .htm No (l) ><a href="pet-memorials.html">My Oso Pup’s Pet Memorial</a> Should be ><a href="pet-memorials.htm">My Oso Pup’s Pet Memorial</a> Other than that I would say your site is very nice. Great Job Quote
Butler Posted March 5, 2005 Author Posted March 5, 2005 Eeeeeewwwww, you guys are good. But we knew that. Robert, you nailed it on the html mistake and it was only 4 hours ago I emailed my designer on the oversight. THANK you for taking the time to review the site! Thanks Andy, I opened a ticket. But, this is all presales questions, so I don't have an account yet. So, doens't seem like I should be sending my host info just yet(?) I need to pay for the silver plan I desire FIRST I would imagine(?) Then provide that info through a private means other than in the forum here(?) No need to respond gentlemen. I'll check the help ticket status in the morning. Man, we all need to hit the hay! Quote
stevevan Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 Welcome to the forums, Butler! The others have already outlined what you need to do. I think you'll find TCH a great place to host your site. While nothing is ever 100% guaranteed, TCH's success rate is quite high! And since you currently use cpanel, the transfer success rate is also quite high! Welcome again! Quote
TCH-Andy Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 I replied to your ticket. For Information to others. we don't request any private information (such as cpanel access info) to be posted via the forums. It should only be done via secure access to the help desk. Also, sign up first, and once you have received the welcome email- you can then open a ticket and ask for the transfer of your files from one cpanel account to the other. Quote
Butler Posted March 5, 2005 Author Posted March 5, 2005 Thank you gentlemen for all your excellent support and I got the email Andy and we'll start tomorrow if anyone is avialable to start the order. No need to though, take some weekend off guys. Quote
HCSuperStores Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 Welcome to the forums Butler! Hey, as a web designer myself I do have a small concern for you. Have you talked to your web designer to be sure that everything you have on your site is complatible with a Linux setup? If you were previously hosted on a Windows server AND you used windows-specific technology, then you might have an issue with the TCH servers. Maybe the TCH help desk guys can look out for this upon transer, find out what your website is currently running on, as they look to make the transfer. Just a suggestion. I would definately keep your web designer in the loop on this. This is a great place to be. Glad you have joined us! Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 Welcome to the forums, Butler. When you do get signed up and moved over don't forget to introduce yourself in the Introductions forum for an official welcome. Quote
Butler Posted March 5, 2005 Author Posted March 5, 2005 Linux operating system is what my cpanel states when I log into it. Not certain if that clarifies anything for us though. If not, I'll have to ask the hosting company..which is represented by a middle man......ohhh the pain! I appreciate the insight superstores, and any other potential concern will be well noted. My current designer has noted that to move my site to a new host, the new host would need to have php and mysql. And I know you do. Quote
HCSuperStores Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 Well, given that information, you sound good to go for a transfer. No guarantees, but I'd feel safe in doing it! There's great customer service here, good people, solid servers ... everthing that most websites would ever need. I think you'll like it here! Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 Currently cPanel in in development for Windows. So there are no Windows servers using it to my knowledge. Quote
Butler Posted March 5, 2005 Author Posted March 5, 2005 That's the scary part..."no guarantees". I'm looking for a guarantee so to speak. I'm not html savvy, so if there are problems and data lost...I'm toast. The other route as opposed to a "transfer" would be use a ftp client to bring each and every page over one at a time? I assume this is the guarantee type of transfer that would deter any potential lost data/etc? If so, I think that would make me feel better.......(assuming data can be lost in cyberspace). *If* TCH trys to transfer my sites, yet it doesn't work...is any of my data lost on my current web server or anything detrimental? I mean if the transfer is "unsuccessful?" I'm not a gambling person and want at least the one site done pretty soon. Otherwise, no need to sell me on TCH....I'm already sold. Non html people that still have alot of time writing and money paying for design are flat out gunna get nervous about a "transfer" if they like me don't know what it involves and have no knowledge what to do if their is a mishap. OK, I'm done with the long type. Quote
HCSuperStores Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 (edited) That's the scary part..."no guarantees". I'm looking for a guarantee so to speak. I'm sorry if my little CYA statement bothered you. TCH has transferred hundreds, if not thousands, of accounts this way. I can't imagine there being any problems. So let me rephrase ... There is no forseeable issue that I can see in doing what you are asking and that things will work seemlessly. I personally can't guarantee anything. The TCH staff will be sure that things transfer everything correctly and you can check out your account before you start using the new area. So you can be sure things are working well before you make the final switch to TCH (see a reference to the DNS change TCH-Don mentioned) Sorry if my "no guarantees" statement scared you. I'll shut up now and defer to a "qualified" TCH technical staff person to answer if there are any issues with your tranfer! Edited March 5, 2005 by HCSuperStores Quote
TCH-Don Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 Welcome Butler The cpanel transfers are as said almost always perfect including e-mail and databases. You do not have to worry about your current site. Visitors will still go there until you are happy that your site is functioning here and you change the DNS (name servers) at your domain name registrar to point here. When you sign up you will receive info on accessing your space here using a temp address so you can see the transfered site and make sure it is ok. How ever some php scripts may not function until your change the DNS over. It depends on what php scripts you are using. You do have 30 days to try out TotalChoiceHosting services with a money back guarantee and as you see we have lots of helpful family members who love to help. Quote
HCSuperStores Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 Currently cPanel in in development for Windows. So there are no Windows servers using it to my knowledge. I was wondering that myself after I answered that question. Good to know for anyone transferring from another host. That's probably 99% of the compatibility question answered right there. Quote
Butler Posted March 5, 2005 Author Posted March 5, 2005 Superstores, nah you didn't scare me away at all. Quite the opposite. Don, thanks the expanded explanation. I think that needs to be posted in the faq! I'll start this in a couple of hours guys and work it out with the help desk. No further response necessary. Thanks for being there for me! Quote
