ace
This tweak increases the page load in FireFox. The tweak seems to work well, especially with graphic intensive pages: In Firefox, type "about:config" in the address bar without the quotes. You'll get a list of config variables. Right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". Does it work for you?
TCH-Tim
Here are some other ways to browse faster in Firefox, and they do work, but keep in mind that it's bad for servers, and some of them can cause you some trouble under certain circumstances. So if you want to be a good member of the community, think twice before going overboard with this stuff.
TweezerMan
This note is in the comments of the page that Tim linked to (talking about setting nglayout.initialpaint.delay to zero): Also turning the initial paint display to 0 may cause some problems for people. The default is 250 milliseconds because Firefox tries to balance how much data it has recieved with how soon it should start displaying it. So, if we cut the display time down to 0 it won't have much data to actually show you and it will just start eating up CPU cycles sooner. I think it's smarter to give it a chance to get a bit more data before it begins painting it on your screen. Personally, I'd probably not recommend tweaking those kinds of settings unless you have a concrete problem you're trying to solve.
ace
Really good points!!
MikeJ
Yea, basically all nglayout.initialpaint.delay really does is make the page start to display sooner, but probably won't really give you an improvement in speed overall (and could possibly make it slower). So it'll appear to be faster because you see content sooner. For the technically inclinded, some more detailed discussion on some of the commonly mentioned tweak settings can be found over at mozillaZine. Betty1
I think I'll be smart and just leave my settings alone. Everytime I try and mess with something like that I screw something up. FireFox already loads fast enough for me anyways.
