rnmcd Posted January 21, 2005 Posted January 21, 2005 Is there something similiar I can use that is installed on TCH shared servers (since SSH isn't available to me)? Thanks. Quote
MikeJ Posted January 21, 2005 Posted January 21, 2005 If this is a one time backup you need, you can request TCH does the dump for you via the help desk. If you need to do this on a regular basis, you can look at setting up a cron job to do a database dump on a regular basis. Quote
TCH-Don Posted January 22, 2005 Posted January 22, 2005 You can also goto cpanel > backup and click on download a databasejust click on the name of your forum database. Later if need be you can upload it in the same place. Quote
borfast Posted January 25, 2005 Posted January 25, 2005 Or you can go to phpMyAdmin in control panel and export the tables/database you want, with a lot of options to select from Quote
rnmcd Posted January 25, 2005 Author Posted January 25, 2005 Or you can go to phpMyAdmin in control panel and export the tables/database you want, with a lot of options to select from <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I was looking into that but the Vbulletin folks said, " We had reports that PHP was causing time out errors when creating the back up SQL, and this was causing for incomplete or corrupted backups. The safest way to do a backup is to use the mysqldump utility through SSH/Telnet, as it will not suffer from any such problems." Quote
rnmcd Posted January 26, 2005 Author Posted January 26, 2005 After you read this question (and finish laughing from how 'novice' it is )..... Where do you typically 'dump' a database to? It wouldn't make sense to back it up to the same server, would it? Thank you. Quote
TCH-Rob Posted January 26, 2005 Posted January 26, 2005 I do most of my backups to my home directory, FTP them to my computer and delete the backup file from the server. Quote
TCH-Don Posted January 26, 2005 Posted January 26, 2005 the cpanel > backup promts you to download to your computer you can upload the database the same place if you need to. Quote
