youneverknow Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 Microsoft has offered its Beta Anti-Spyware for free at this link... http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&DisplayLang=en This is not really a new MS product but one they purchased from Giant Software. It found a couple that AdAware and Spybot did not detect...all in all a nice program IMHO youneverknow Quote
TCH-Dick Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 Giant was my favorite anti spyware program, I hope MS doesnt ruin it Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 Thanks youneverknow That program found 6 threats that spybot & Adaware never did. I had never heard of Giant before this but as Mike says, hope MS doesn´t ruin it. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 I used Giant about a month ago on a friends machine and found over 1700 files. Is M$ going to offer this for free when it's out of beta? Quote
youneverknow Posted January 6, 2005 Author Posted January 6, 2005 Bruce...I think the talk around here is that MS is going to offer the combination spyware and an anti virus program as a suite. Yes they plan on charging for the updates like Symantec and other do. But for now this is free....I don't know how often the definition base will be updated or when and if this beta will stop working. youneverknow Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 Well that sucks. I already have a good anti-virus program. I don't need a suite. Quote
boxturt Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 The EUA says it will simply cease to function July 2005 Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 I hope they will place a "y" in AntiSpyware in the final product. Quote
TCH-Rob Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 I hope they will place a "y" in AntiSpyware in the final product. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thomas, The "y" was a known malware product and has been removed from the system. You may still be able to get it from the quarantine file though. Quote
jslagle Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 I hope they will place a "y" in AntiSpyware in the final product. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thomas, The "y" was a known malware product and has been removed from the system. You may still be able to get it from the quarantine file though. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hey, this is Microsoft we're talking about. Just because a part of the system wasn't ready (the y's) they shipped anyway and hoped no one would notice Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 Slashdot writes (http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/01/08/196234&from=rss): MS AntiSpyware vs Ad-Aware vs. SpyBotAn anonymous reader writes "Flexbeta.net compares Microsoft's new spyware fighting tool, Windows AntiSpyware, to Ad-Aware and SpyBot S&D; the two leading spyware tools on the market today. The review sets up an infected PC using VMWare Workstation and scans the machine using all three tools to see which tool detects the most spyware. Though still in beta, Microsoft AntiSpyware does an amazing job at detecting spyware by finding twice as many infected files as Ad-Aware and nearly three times as SpyBot." Quote
