borfast Posted December 26, 2004 Posted December 26, 2004 Last night, on the 24th, I sent this e-mail to all my friends and family (actually, it was in Portuguese but I translated it ). I'm sharing it here today with you guys, in the hope it inspires you —- My friends, in this season it is usual to say "Happy Holidays", "Merry Christmas", etc. This year I won't do any of that. That's right, I'm not wishing a Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays to anyone... nothing! Instead, I'll give you something to think about: why is it that most people only wish good things for each other and have that kind and generous behaviour (the "Christmas spirit") during this season? To me, that doesn't make sense and I may even consider it a little hypocrite. I know that during the other days, people don't wish bad things for each other but is it really that difficult to keep that "Christmas spirit" alive during the rest of the year? I think not And that's the message I'd like to pass to you. I am not going to wish you a Merry Christmas because I rather that you live every day with that kind and generous behaviour. The time we spend on this beautiful planet is so short that we shouldn't waste it on fights, wars and discussions, no matter how big or small they are. Use the time you have to be with the ones you love and to do what you really want. The day will come when you will not be able to do so, so you should do it while you can! Think about it when somebody invites you, for examplo, to the next birthday party. Ask yourselves why is it that people who call themselves friends need to have an excuse, such as a birthday, in order to get together and share some happiness. Throuw parties, meet with your friends even if it is for just half an hour, don't go out only to the disco at night, there are lots of beautiful places to see during the day (and you won't damage your hearing or your lungs ), go visit that friend that you haven't seen in a long time, adopt an abandoned animal, give food and clothing to the needed people, buy someone a present even if it's not that person's birthday... there are so many things that you can do to keep the Christmas spirit during all year! Although there's no presents or traditional Christmas sweets/candies/cakes all year, if you really want to keep that kindness and generosity flame burning inside you... you can do it! Try... you'll see the difference! As for me, I wish everyone to be very happy and in good health, all days of the year! Hugs and kisses, Raul Quote
Virtual Imager Posted December 26, 2004 Posted December 26, 2004 That's nice, Raul. If only it would happen. But if you keep that attitude year-round, it might affect someone else and maybe they'll do it too, and they'll affect someone else. In another million years or so, Earth will be a very nice place to live, year-round! By then we'll all look like this: In the meantime, it's never too late to start and your letter is an excellent start. Maybe it will happen faster if we keep the presents, sweets, candies, and cakes going all year too! Quote
Prel Posted December 26, 2004 Posted December 26, 2004 Friend Raul, It is certain that its thought is shared by other people. At this time much emotion exists, and many people think about making something to improve the world. I find that we must keep this symbol of Christmas with suppers and gifts for 2 reasons: 1)to stimulate "fantazy" the Santa Claus "Papai Noel" of the children; 2)the exchange of gifts and supper makes with that families if join With these 2 reasons I wait that the moment and spirit of Christmas if do not lose as it has happened My solution to try to keep this spirit of Christmas the entire year: it is to always have in mind that "I must live 50% for me and 50% for the next one" As to make this? Each one must find its way and its way. Many times exist somebody begging for aid in the same street where we live, but nor we look at for it, many times we can find wonderful people for this world. A great example is the staff of the TCH and the Forum here. Perhaps let us can create a private place masi in the forum to know better what each one of us makes in its life and to know its experiences, I am certain that we will find people, projects and wonderful things. Who thus knows will not be initiating something better for our world also.
