mporter88 Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 Hi. I am building a site that will contain personal (though non financial) information pertaining to many people. It is a family website and I want members to feel secure about the site. Though I have been given some help in another direction about site security I think that I can use the cpanel directory protection if it more secure. So how secure is the directory password protection that is to be found in cpanel? Is it the most secure option to limit access? Any other issues to consider? Thanks in advance. mporter88 Quote
LisaJill Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 It's fairly secure given that your .htaccess file has the right permissions - which it will if you don't go and change 'em. =) I'm not really sure of how secure every method is, but .htaccess is going to do you well unless you make an enemy, anyway. AlanV Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 From what I've heard, it's almost as secure as you can get, especially since your .htpasswd file is stored outside your public_html directory (and so is only accessable by someone who can access your root... and if someone is accessing your root, you have more problems that then simply entering a secure page anyway). I use cpanel's protect to protect secure stuff for me too, and it's always worked. Quote
jandafields Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 It is very secure especially if your passwords are good passwords (mixture of letters and numbers, at least 8 characters long). Quote
