SabrinaFaire Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 BlogHosts refugee here! I'm thinking that perhaps you all might know more about what's going on than I do. Obviously I need to switch and I'm researching new hosts (TCH is currently in the lead). Here's my questions I'm using MT 2 something right now, and I think now might be the time to upgrade to MT 3. How hard would it be to transfer everything over AND upgrade? Am I asking for too much here? Also, how can I back-up my old site? It seems like I can't get into it at all, nor can I get into 2 other sites that I know are still on BlogHosts. Anyone know if this is a permanent thing or a temporary problem? I also have a PHPBB bulletin board on my site. Can that be transferred over? If not, it's no big deal, but I thought I'd ask. If I lose that in the move I won't be heartbroken. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 (edited) I know almost nothing about bloghost, so take these answers as "I think" answers and that someone else should verify them. As I have understood from other posts about coming over from bloghost to TCH is that bloghost have cpanel and if they do the TCH-techs should be able to transfer your site over to its servers. If they can, I dont think a backup will be needed. As for phpbb, the only thing I think you need to backup (if TCH-techs can not transfer) is the database. Hopes that helps and hopes to see you in the family. Edited November 9, 2004 by TCH-Thomas Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 (edited) As for upgrading to version 3 of MT, you would have to update it yourself. There are many MT users here that can offer help if you get stuck. TCH does not install 3rd party scripts for users. Edited November 9, 2004 by TCH-Bruce Quote
LisaJill Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 yes, the cpanel -> cpanel moves are the easiest; they move everything over then you may just need to update some config files to get them working. (paths, etc) - as far as MT, if you're using MySQL it should not be a problem. Quote
Beltza Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 As a former bloghosts MT user, I can tell you that the transfer was easy enough. The folks here at TCH moved my whole site within 30 minutes after creating the helpdesk ticket. Make sure that you run the mt-check.cgi script to check whether all necessary modules are available on your new server. I had to place one file in the extlib directory, but the MT manual explains how to do this. Quote
soleil Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 I'll add it here too just in case: Quick question though: I have my domain registered with Bloghosts, and apparently they're not replying to ANYONE. How will I get my domain name back?? I'm so worried, about the so called "refund" and my domain. I just found out yesterday from reading a blog, had I not seen it, I wouldn't have known and lost my domain and my money (although I think my money is lost for sure) How will I get my domain name back painlessly? TCH-Rick Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 I would imagine that they are pretty swamped with emails right now with requests. I looked at their page on what to do to have the domain transferred into your name and saw no real indication that they would reply back. They may well just change the contact information on the domain so that it is in your control so that you can transfer it, etc. If you will provide your domain name we can look to see more on who the registration is with. soleil Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 And if it doesn't get transferred? Is there a way to get it back to me? Quote
soleil Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 Oh, I checked and it's still under Bloghosts. Quote
