cornfestival Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 My daughter's high school band has been selected to represent our state in the 2005 National 4th of July parade in Washington DC. We are currently in the middle of a fund raiser. I have volunteered to create a web site for the band and donate the cost and my time. It will be hosted by Total Choice! One reason I want to create this web site is so we can have a mailing list to send out band booster minutes and other information to parents. My question is this. Am I going to have to worry about getting identified as a spammer? We have a list of about 100 parents that we will be sending information out as a group two to three times a month. The last thing I want is for the site to get black listed and shut down. Are there any things I need to do so this does not happen? Quote
TCH-Rob Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Well, since this is school related and not all over the place why not see if you can get something sent home with the kids that the parents have to sign up for? Send only to those asking for it. Quote
cornfestival Posted November 5, 2004 Author Posted November 5, 2004 My intention is for parents to sign up for the emails. We already have a list of nearly 100. My fear is that we be identified as a spammer. That is what I am trying to avoid. Some people are telling us that the emails are being flagged as possible spam the way we are currently sending them. TCH-Don Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 As this is shared hosting, not meant for large e-mail lists. You will have to send in spurts. Like 15 per minute then pause should be ok. I think cpanels mailman can bet set to batch mode like that. I know Dada Mail can also be set to batch mode. Quote
cornfestival Posted November 5, 2004 Author Posted November 5, 2004 Thanks Don. That's the kind of stuff I need to know. Are there other things I need to be aware of? Quote
Deverill Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 (edited) Warn everyone that has already signed up that you will be sending emails and give them the email address it will be coming from. Also, make your title obvious so they immediately know it's about the band and not just "Hello!" or other vague wording. Congrats on them being selected! Added: The above steps will help prevent them from "turning in" your email as spam to their providers and will make your life easier. Edited November 5, 2004 by TCH-Jim Quote
