TCH-Thomas Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 Does anyone know... 1) How do I get rid of the "Trillian Event System" box (attached image) and still keep the individaul contacts alerts? 2) If trillian is installed, does that mean I can uninstall the other IM´S I am using (msn, yahoo, aim)? Quote
TCH-Andy Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 Hi, 1. Are you using the free or Pro version - in the Pro version you can go into File, Preferences, Advanced - and then turn on or off different items individually. 2. Yes, you can uninstall them. Keep them as a backup if you want - but I never have, I have never found the need. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted October 17, 2004 Author Posted October 17, 2004 Im using the free version now but thinking about getting the pro version if I can find out on trillians site if theres a swedish language pack. I also installed a skin (Silver XP) so there might be those things you mention (File, Preferences, Advanced) in the free version too but I cant find it. Quote
borfast Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 Thomas, before spending the money on the Pro version, try Gaim. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted October 17, 2004 Author Posted October 17, 2004 I have a problem Raul. Since I plan to recommend any new IM (which can replace msn, yahoo etc) I need it to be able to speak swedish, which I can find nothing about on the Gaim-site. I cant find it on trillians site either though. Quote
TCH-Andy Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 Have a look at; http://www.trillian.cc/forums/showthread.php?threadid=31325 Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted October 17, 2004 Author Posted October 17, 2004 Thanks Andy I must admit one thing though, I didnt go through all 7 pages. Mainly because that the first 2 talks about character sets and I assume that has to do with what I type in a chat box. Correct? What I need though is a IM client that is completely translated, menus, buttons etc. Quote
borfast Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 Thomas, have you tried installing Gaim? I'm asking because if I recall correctly, Gaim allows you to chose the language to install. I'm not sure if Swedish is an option, though but you can give it a try. Oh, and you are correct about the character sets Quote
borfast Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 I just checked while updating my laptop's WinGaim version to 1.0.1 and it does indeed support Swedish (it's "Svenska", right? ) Quote
borfast Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 And here's some more: Gaim Internationalization Statistics Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted October 17, 2004 Author Posted October 17, 2004 Thats very correct Raul. I will install it tomorrow and thn tell you what I think about it. Right now its 11.45pm here and Im off to bed. Thanks everyone and sleep well when that time comes for you. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted October 18, 2004 Author Posted October 18, 2004 I´m sorry Raul But I have spent about 1.5 hours trying to connect to Msn , Aim and Yahoo with no luck. I dont know if Im missing something and I do see that there is plugins for this and that , but IMHO, even if I (sometime) get it to work I can not recommend a IM-program to family and friends which needs several plugins just to make it work. By the way, I asked in the trillian forum if there is a swedish language pack. So far one answer which wasnt sure but it doesnt look promising. I can handle a IM program speaking english myself, but when I recommend it to people I need to know which language/s it can speak. Summary... So far Trillian has taken the lead in my hunt, but we just have to wait and see. Quote
borfast Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 But I have spent about 1.5 hours trying to connect to Msn , Aim and Yahoo with no luck. You don't need to use any plugins at all, Gaim supports MSN Messenger, AIM/ICQ and Yahoo Messenger (along with a few others) right out of the box. It's just a matter of selecting the type of network you want to connect to (MSN, AIM/ICQ, IRC, Yahoo, Jabber, etc), fill in the screen name (username) and password. You can leave all the rest at their default values, unless you know you need to change something. Can you describe the problem you're having? If you want you can reach me via IM and I'll see if I can help you. By the way, I don't want to look as if I'm pushing Gaim down your throat. I just think that, having used both the free and the Pro version of Trillian on Windows and also Gaim on Windows and Linux, Gaim is a better IM software. And if I can spare some money and still use something that I prefer, of course I'll chose that option Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted October 18, 2004 Author Posted October 18, 2004 (edited) I know you are not trying to push it down my throat. I apologize if I made it sound like that, but when something not working as expected and it looks like it needs this and that kind of plugins, the normal user (and I consider myself one of those in this) becomes Mad!!!. What I can not do is simply to connect to any of the networks. I uninstalled it so I cant tell word by word what the box said, but it said I could not connect and I was given a few options including retry and cancel. Edited October 18, 2004 by Jikrantz Quote
TCH-Andy Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 (edited) Thomas, If it helps any - I saw you logging on and off with Gaim several times. With Trillain, I only know the Pro version, I'm not sure about the free version. There is a set of xml which hold all the words in wheatever language you like. I haven't looked for a specific Swedish pack - but you can always create one. I'm off to try Gaim - I always value Raul's thoughts - and if he thinks it's better, then it's certainly worth a try Edited October 18, 2004 by TCH-Andy Quote
borfast Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 (edited) Thomas, you didn't make it sound like that, I just didn't want you (or anyone else reading this) to think that that's what I was trying to do Thanks, Andy Do keep in mind that Gaim has some limitations, like not supporting video conference (does Trillian support that now?), or file transfers in AIM/ICQ (file transfers work in IRC, MSN and Yahoo but not on AIM/ICQ. Haven't tried the others), so if you really need those functionalities, you may still want to stay with Trillian. It's also not as pretty as Trillian, pretty much due to the fact that it doesn't support skinning, unfortunately Still, I like it better Edited October 18, 2004 by TCH-Raul Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted October 18, 2004 Author Posted October 18, 2004 I can live with no file transfer etc but right now (in gaim) I can connect to AIM but no yahoo or msn. I stick with Trillian. If anyone wants to add me just click the buttons in any of my posts (will update them as soon I stop typing here). Quote
TCH-Dick Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 Take a look here http://w1.455.telia.com/~u45515991/Index.htm Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted October 18, 2004 Author Posted October 18, 2004 Yeehaa Trillian - You will be swedish in my computer tomorrow. Thanks Mike. Thumbs Up Quote
TCH-Andy Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 Thanks Mike - I just tried the Trillian in Swedish - works fine. The only bit that was still in English, was my English Plugins - but that's easy to change. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted October 18, 2004 Author Posted October 18, 2004 Hey, we can speak swedish via trillian later then Andy. Quote
TCH-Andy Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 In Swedish, it's going to be a short conversation How about Chinese - I can manage that better... Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted October 18, 2004 Author Posted October 18, 2004 runs off to a crash course in chinese... Quote
TCH-Dick Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 Welcome, guess thats one of the benefits of using the pro version, i found that on the "members" forum Quote
champagnemojo Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 I've always used Miranda when in windows...it's another open-source multi-protocol IM program. It's very simple out of the box, but can be made as complex as you want (up to a point). You can never make it as flashy as trillian though. I love Gaim for linux, but I haven't really used it for Windows. Mind you, I never really gave it a fair chance. The first time I installed it I had quite a few issues with gtk, and just sorta decided that I liked the simplicity of Miranda instead. There's no need to install Miranda...you can even put it on a floppy and use it...though it'd be very stripped down. But I still vastly prefer Gaim over anything else when I'm in linux. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted October 20, 2004 Author Posted October 20, 2004 I have Trillian Pro up and running now. There was a slight installation issue with it that their support fixed. But for anyone installing Trillian Pro, I can recommend installing it a completely empty folder. Thanks everyone Quote
