Step 3 : Now You must CHMOD the the directory cutenews/data/ and all files and folders under the data/ directory must be also chmod'ed to 777.

CHMOD is the command which means Change permissions...

 

If you go to File Manager and click on the folder/file (click on the name and not the icon) that you want to change permissions as per instruction, you will see a list of options on the top left hand corner, one of them allows you to do just that - Change permissions.

 

You will then see a matrix of permissions... type in the correct numbers at the bottom of the matrix to what the script wants you to set it to. Voila. You're set.

Actually you are better off changing the values in the grid itself by manipulating the different checked boxes.

boxturt - I disagree, if the script gave information on what it should be there's no harm in using the numbers, after all if one doesn't know what chmod is then one won't know the necessary combination to get the right number.

 

Btw: You can do this from your ftp program if you prefer - in windows, most will allow you to via right click; but I'm not sure of the specifics of each program. =)

If you try to change the numbers in cPanel file manager and hit save, it will take the settings as defined by the checkboxes, not the numbers. You're better off if using file manager to select the right boxes until the numbers match what you need to have it set to.

I didn't know that about the numbers part too not being able to save.

I found out the hard way. I generally use an FTP client to make any changes.
