rammie Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 I am very impressed by the level of service you obviously provide after viewing this message board. I am considering moving 3 websites over here but wanted to ask a few questions first. First, there is no mention on the size of the mySQL database that is allowed. Currently, one of my websites is a very active phpBB2 forum and I am forced to autoprune it at about 11 days due to the restriction on the size of the database. Does the 450MB of space include web space AND database space? Second, and I think I already know the answer but will ask anyway, would I need to have 3 separate accounts/plans for each domain or could I host all three under one account/plan? Third, if I were to transfer an existing domain/website hosted here under the Starter Plan my annual costs would be $44 +$10.95 = $54.95, correct? Or would the domain registration fee be waived? I'm a little unclear as to how that works. Thanks in advance for your help. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 I see Don is reading this and he always beats me in typing (but I will try to answer though), so I just want to say Welcome to us (if you decide to move). Answers would be though: 1) Yes 2) Yes, you would need separate ones or a reseller. 3) Moving a domain is free of charge as far as I know. Quote
rammie Posted September 22, 2004 Author Posted September 22, 2004 woooot 18 minutes to get a response! Impressive! Thanks a bunch. Quote
TCH-Dick Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 Just to clarify something, transferring a domain to TCH is $10.95 and includes a 1 year extension on the domain name. Logging in to wherever you registered the domain name and setting your name servers to point to our DNS servers doesnt cost you anything. The 10.95 fee is not waived if you order hosting and transfer the domain, so the cost would be $10.95 for the transfer + the cost of whatever plan you choose. You do not have to transfer the domain to TCH to use us as your host, you can simply change the name servers with your current registrar to point to our DNS servers. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 Does the 450MB of space include web space AND database space? Yes, it includes everything in your domain. Web pages, forums, databases, email, scripts.... Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 Sorry Mike and rammie, I didnt think of that. Quote
TCH-Rob Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 Welcome to the forums rammie. Hope to see you around more. Quote
rammie Posted October 1, 2004 Author Posted October 1, 2004 OK guys I am ready to make the jump with one of my sites. Domain name is http://www.popside.com. I think it would be best for me to transfer the domain also, so that I only have to pay a bill in one place. Can you give me a 'transferring domains for dummies' run down, so I don't screw it up and a best guess as to how long it would take before the site was up and running again, (assuming that I have all the files and database already FTP'd and loaded prior to transfer)? Actually, I just had a lightbulb go on. I still have about 9 months left with my current registrar. If I were to just change the name server and transfer about a month prior to my domain needing to be renewed, that would work, wouldn't it? Again, how long before the website was operational if I went this route? Quote
TCH-Don Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 Hi rammie, yep you can wait on the transfer and just up date the DNS After you get your welcome e-mail you will see how to access your site and cpanel by IP/~username When you have your site up, change the DNS and wait up to 72 hours for all the domain name severs to update. As to the domain transfer, you don't want to wait too long or too close to the end. A month may be ok, but it might take longer if your current domain registar drags their feet. When you transfer, you will get another year added on to what you have now. So you will not lose anything. As to the billing, the domain name and the hosting account are sererate billings. If you need anything else, please ask. And don't forget to pop over to the introductions forum to say hi. Quote
rammie Posted October 1, 2004 Author Posted October 1, 2004 Oh, OK. There is no real point in waiting to transfer the domain, then. That's awesome news - just one less thing for me to remember! Thanks Don! Thumbs Up Quote
rammie Posted October 1, 2004 Author Posted October 1, 2004 When I try to sign up and get to the part where I have to pay I keep getting the following error: 'Domain popside.com already exists on this system' Thoughts? Quote
rammie Posted October 1, 2004 Author Posted October 1, 2004 OK it looks like I did a partial sign up as I received an email with a payment reminder. Trouble is that it doesn't give me any instructions on how to pay the invoice. Help! Quote
rammie Posted October 1, 2004 Author Posted October 1, 2004 OK I checked lower down the forum and found the answer. I will submit a trouble ticket. Quote
TCH-Don Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 You are welcome! You can deal with the hosting first then the domain. And yes a help ticket is correct, they will get you set. Quote
rammie Posted October 5, 2004 Author Posted October 5, 2004 OK the move went SMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTH!! It took less than 24 hours to get everything moved over, database loaded (by Tech Support - thanks!), scripts changed and DNS updated and propagated. Access speeds are BLAZING compared to my old host and all my users are extremely happy. You guys ROCK! Quote
