Purgpow Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 i Think i posted this in the wrong fourm before....sorry i used the Cpanel to try and set up a FTP file so i can get some files transfered to me from a friend. i went to set FTP account and put in the login name and password so far every thing went fine. i then loaded up my FTP program to test it out and the login looks like this. "Socket connected waiting for login sequence. 220 ProFTPD 1.2.9 Server (ProFTPD) [server38.totalchoicehosting.com] USER bigjohn 331 Password required for bigjohn. PASS (hidden) 530 Login incorrect. Cannot login waiting to retry (30s)..." Is there something i'm doing wrong?? Quote
TCH-Andy Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 Hi, Are you using username@domain.com as the username when logging into the FTP? It looks as if you are using bigjohn, rather than bigjohn@****. Quote
TCH-Don Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 (edited) And don't forget when setting up an ftp account, you can have a different folder name than the user name just change the folder name last befor creating the account. so you can have john123@**** log into a folder named myfiles. Purgpow Posted September 22, 2004 Author Posted September 22, 2004 I’m am using SmartFTP I have no problem logging on to my site with SmartFTP With my Domain name, so I Know the SmartFTP program works. The SmartFTP asks for a Address Which I put bigjohn@**** Next it asks for a login name which I put “bigjohn” Next it asks for a password which I put “*******” And when I hit the Connect button I get this message. "Socket connected waiting for login sequence. 220 ProFTPD 1.2.9 Server (ProFTPD) [server38.totalchoicehosting.com] USER bigjohn 331 Password required for bigjohn. PASS (hidden) 530 Login incorrect. Cannot login waiting to retry (30s)..." So am I doing it wright? Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 You need to add the @****** to your login otherwise it will not work. There could be several bigjohn on the server. Without the @****** it wouldn't know which domain to log into. Quote
TCH-Dick Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 Address should be domain.com or ftp.domain.com (either should work Username should be bigjohn@**** password should be whatever you chose Quote
Purgpow Posted September 22, 2004 Author Posted September 22, 2004 ok ... that worked .. just fine the login name has to be the full address.. Thanks for the help guys Quote
