CAMPPAIN Posted November 19, 2002 Posted November 19, 2002 Ok now I had my site up on sitegem.com for free and It was simple. I would just type in the html codes and java I wanted and knew and hit submit. Page created. I have no problems with ***** and it looks great, I'm just confused at all the different options. I've looked thru the faq, anyone? Sorry for sounding like a n00b Quote

CAMPPAIN Posted November 20, 2002 Author Posted November 20, 2002 Cool thanks Head Guru. I want to know where the heck do I put my html codes in to design a page? I hope this doesnt sound general. Also I'm having problems trying to setup my email account on outlook, I read your faq about that and still no go..... I'm going to take some tie this weekend or tomorrow to look everything over, I spent most of the morning going thru the cpanel, but to no avial. Quote

Lianna Posted November 20, 2002 Posted November 20, 2002 Camppain, Let me guess, your old host had an online site-building application, right? Something like Page Builder or Trellix Web Builder? There is no page builder here that I am aware of. You need to build your pages on your local pc using any software that you like. Then FTP the files from there to the host. Me? I use CuteSITE Builder and Dreamweaver to develop all of my pages/sites. Both have a built in FTP client to help with the transfer of files. CSB is ~$70US (http://www.globalscape.com/products/cutesitebuilder/index.asp) and Dreamweaver costs a small fortune. If you are used to creating in HTML, try Globalscape's CuteHTML. Their web productivity pack is a great buy @60$: the latest versions CuteFTP 5.0 XP, CuteZIP 2.1, CuteHTML 2.3 and CuteMAP 1.1. (http://www.globalscape.com/products/wppack.asp) Or CuteHTML solo for $38, http://www.globalscape.com/products/cutehtml/index.asp. Lianna Quote
CAMPPAIN Posted November 21, 2002 Author Posted November 21, 2002 I believe you hit it on the head Liana! iirc it was page builder. I have dreamweaver but have never used it only once. I will attempt to get some tutorials for dreamweaver online and try the ftp thingy. Quote
CAMPPAIN Posted November 21, 2002 Author Posted November 21, 2002 still lost ive been reading up on stuff..... still confused my emails dont work, I can send messages but dont recieve any in both outlook and using the ones provided online I feel like a total n00by Quote
Lianna Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 Don't despair! This is what happens with change: we GROW! Using Outlook? Are you getting a specific error message when it attempts to receive email? Or does it not give you any errors and says No New Messages? Click Tools > Email Accounts then the Mail tab. Click on your email account to highlight it and then the Properties button. What information is entered on the Servers tab of that dialog? Could you post it here (except your password of course)? There is another post in FAQ that details the setup in Outlook Express. It is NO DIFFERENT in Outlook, same procedure. I'll be in most of the morning, you can IM me and chat if you want. Lianna Quote
Ayman_ Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 Lstover your now a Guru in training Thanks for the helpfull postings. IM when you have some time. I would like to chat. ok onto the issue at hand. Don't forget that certain ISP's block the use of outgoing mail servers othen than their own. Port 25 is commonly blocked. They do this to prevent SPAM. Ayman Technical Support Supervisor Quote
CAMPPAIN Posted November 21, 2002 Author Posted November 21, 2002 Lianna's advice was correct! The reply and email in properties was set to just "camppain" instead of camppain@camppain.com Still figuring out about setting up my pages and site..... Don't worry I'm not giving up, its totally different and new to me (frustrating also ) but I'll get it one day. Quote
CAMPPAIN Posted November 23, 2002 Author Posted November 23, 2002 Ok this is what I did with Lianna's help. I went into file manager>public html> I deleted the existing index.html file Uploaded the index.html.txt file i had in my notepad on my computer. Then I clicked on the index.html.txt file hit rename, and changed the file to just index.html! Viola! Quote
