danceswithscissors Posted September 17, 2004 Posted September 17, 2004 Whenever I post on this board I always click ON to receive email replies to that discussion, yet I rarely receive any. Is it just me? Quote
TCH-Don Posted September 18, 2004 Posted September 18, 2004 Hmmm, I just set the forum email options in My Controls and thats all I have to do to get notified. Although I did add totachoicehosting.com to the whitelist in spam assassin. Quote
TCH-Rob Posted September 18, 2004 Posted September 18, 2004 It is just you Jana. Looks like that flash in your sig happened some time ago huh? It goes to the email address you have set up in your my controls section so check the filters to that account. Quote
danceswithscissors Posted September 18, 2004 Author Posted September 18, 2004 I see the *Clown Patrol* is out out in force tonight. woooot I have my email set ok and I occasionally get a notice. Operative word being *occasional*. I got a notice for Don's reply here, but not yours Rob. Maybe you have your email set wrong and it isn't sending out notices when you reply. :: snicker :: Quote
TCH-Rob Posted September 18, 2004 Posted September 18, 2004 You know what? You were right. I had the wrong SMTP server set in my prefs. Quote
Virtual Imager Posted September 18, 2004 Posted September 18, 2004 OK... now I'm confused! Don't the email notifications come from the forum itself. How would Rob's SMTP settings affect Jana's receiving notifications???? Jana, did you visit the forum between Don's post and Rob's? You will only get one email notification per board visit. That email will say that there may be more replies. I would think that is the likely answer, but occasionally, even after visiting the forum, I'm not notified of replies either and they're not in my spam box. The one possibility I came up with is that you not only have to visit the forum, you have to visit that particular topic in order to trigger another email notification the next time. I always click the link from the notification, even though I just read the response in the email, and that seems to take care of the problem for the most part. But not always... Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted September 18, 2004 Posted September 18, 2004 (edited) I can be logged in here for hours and not checking email and then when checking email I can have several notifications (from different people) about same topic. So it seems like the notifications is being sent even if logged in. And yes Jana, you need to have smtp properly set, like smtp.clownpatrol.com Edited September 18, 2004 by Jikrantz Quote
TCH-Rob Posted September 18, 2004 Posted September 18, 2004 Randy, I was getting back at Jana. SMTP settings have nothing to do with getting messages in the forums. Quote
Virtual Imager Posted September 18, 2004 Posted September 18, 2004 Well that's what I thought, but then again, confusion is such a natural state for me that I just expect that most of what I think will turn out to be, well, confused! Quote
danceswithscissors Posted September 19, 2004 Author Posted September 19, 2004 After carefully studying the situation, it's my personal opinion that that a certain big, burley dude wearing dangerous devices in floral areas (who shall remain un-named), breaks this forum everytime he replies, hence the lack of notifications being sent out upon the masses. Either that, or it just one of those glitchy situations that commonly happens whilst playing the internet game. It's late, that's the best I can do. woooot Quote
