woesap Posted July 19, 2004 Posted July 19, 2004 Hiya folks, I was just wondering. Is it possible to open an account with you guys without using a domain name just yet? The plan is to use the ip adress to connect and start trying out stuff for my site. Meanwhile trying to find the domain name that suits me the most. When I find the name I want, register it and let the ip adress and domain name come together through a help ticket. Basic reason is that I'm not sure abt the domain name but want to get started a bit. Basic question is: Is this possible or not? Thanks in advance for your time... grtx, Richard Quote
borfast Posted July 19, 2004 Posted July 19, 2004 Hi Richard. Yes, you can open an account without a domain Do note that certain features will not work without a domain name, such as e-mail and statistics. Quote
woesap Posted July 19, 2004 Author Posted July 19, 2004 Thnx Raul for the quick response. That the email won't work is to be expected. No prob. Statistics not working is even preferable because when it's not official online it's only polluting. CU, Richard Quote
TCH-Rick Posted July 19, 2004 Posted July 19, 2004 You will have to give some domain name when you sign up as it is required that the account be set up with a domain name. I would suggest using something at least close to what you are thinking about using. We can change it later. Also note that many php or perl scripts will not work correctly without a domain name. woesap Posted July 19, 2004 Author Posted July 19, 2004 Thnx Rick, It wouldn't be a problem when I give a fake (not registered) domain name? I didn't come across many php scripts that do not work without domain name at least not work at all. But i'll do keep your advice in mind. I'll think abt it a bit more. Would changing domain name lead to extra costs? Suppose I register a name and decide I want to use another name? I suppose it does mean double fee but one never knows with you guys. Everything is possible:) grtx, Richard Quote
