gary8744 Posted July 5, 2004 Posted July 5, 2004 Our Network Admin at my office is now blocking all ports over 1000. He also blocks Pop3 and SMTP. Yes, he is very paranoid. Anyhow, now I can't read or send my TCH email from work. This is a real problem. So, I signed up for Yahoo! And started using that to check my TCH email. Only problem is that every time I check for "New" messages, I get everything in my inbox (on each account). I asked Yahoo about this and here was their response: Hello Gary, Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Mail. The POP3 protocol, which we use to retrieve messages from your External Mail accounts, provides a command named LAST. It determines the last message "seen" on the External Mail server, at any time and from any computer. When you use the "Retrieve new messages only" option, we use this command to distinguish those messages which are new and should be downloaded from those which have already been seen. Although nearly all mail servers support the LAST command, a few do not. If you happen to be using one that doesn't, then when you click the "Check Mail" link, all of the messages in your Inbox will be retrieved rather than only the new messages. Do the TCH servers support the "Last" command? Would you have any suggestions as to how I might resolve this problem? Thanks!! Gary Rock Sign Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted July 5, 2004 Posted July 5, 2004 I don't know about the LAST command but I would assume so. Have you tried www.mail2web.com to try accessing your email account. I have used it in the past. Quote
Deverill Posted July 5, 2004 Posted July 5, 2004 Can't you use ******/webmail to read and send email via your domain on TCH? Quote
TCH-Rick Posted July 5, 2004 Posted July 5, 2004 Using ******/webmail will use port 2095 so that would be bloacked. I would suggest using ******/sqmail which runs SquirrelMail through the standard port 80. Quote
TCH-Don Posted July 5, 2004 Posted July 5, 2004 Yes ******/sqmail works for me and my company blocks just about everything. Quote
gary8744 Posted July 5, 2004 Author Posted July 5, 2004 The SQMAIL isn't too bad. That may do the trick. Just one thing.... anyone know a way to import a CSV addressbook into it? I have an aweful lot of email address to try to retype them all. Thanks for all of your input!! Gary Quote
Deverill Posted July 5, 2004 Posted July 5, 2004 Using ******/webmail will use port 2095 Aha! Thanks for clearing that up and giving the sqmail suggestion. I forward everything to another webmail service I have had a long time and don't want to give up because I'd have to give everyone yet another address. I get annoyed at others who send me messages about once per month saying "I have a new email at xyzzy1234@hotmail.com" and I have to wonder "Yeah, for how long!" Anyway, I hope it works out for ya Gary. Quote
youneverknow Posted July 5, 2004 Posted July 5, 2004 Dosen't Horde mail use port 80? I believe that with Horde mail you can import addresses from several formats... see screen shot: youneverknow Quote
gary8744 Posted July 6, 2004 Author Posted July 6, 2004 No. Horde uses 2095. I had been using Horde right up to the point that he blocked all the ports. Quote
gary8744 Posted July 6, 2004 Author Posted July 6, 2004 Ok...... Here's another question for you smart people. SQMAIL has a plug in that permits importing a csv email addressbook. Can I install the plug in for my use or does that have to be done on a global level by the Gurus? Rock Sign Quote
borfast Posted July 6, 2004 Posted July 6, 2004 You'll have to install Squirrel Mail in your account and the install the plugin. The standard SQMail is installed for the whole server (shared), and so users are not allowed to change it. You could submit a help desk ticker asking if the techs could install it for you, though.
