Barbara Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 Please help!!! I didn't check my email in the last few days, and when I did today I see that I have a deactivation notice for my website http://www.pattonuncovered.com from dotregister.com as well as a notice from your company saying that I was billed $55 for this next year. However my website has been taken down!!! I don't understand what's going on, but please help me put the website back online as soon as possible because this is the only way I can conduct business. Thanks in advance. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 Your domain name registration is separate from your hosting contract. I'm sure your site is still on the TCH servers but your domain name has expired. Record last updated on 26-Jun-2004. Record expires on 25-Jun-2004. Record created on 25-Jun-2002. You will need to contact dotregister.com to renew your domain name. Quote
Barbara Posted June 29, 2004 Author Posted June 29, 2004 I can't do this through your company? that is how i did it originally. Quote
TCH-Dick Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 Bruce is correct, your site is still up but your domain name has expired. You will have to contact dotregister.com to renew your domain name. you can access your site here http://server29.totalchoicehosting.com/~pattonu2/ Quote
TCH-Dick Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 I can't do this through your company? that is how i did it originally. The hosting is through us, the domain name is not http://www.dotregistrar.com/indexn.html Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 I think you should submit a desk ticket to Billing department, to see if serverspace has been taken down or just the domain. If just the domain, you should be able to see your site as mentioned in welcome email before propagation. Then go to dotregistrar to renew or register/transfer the domain to TCH as you can read here. If its serverspace that is deactivated too, then Billing department should be able to tell what to do. Quote
Barbara Posted June 29, 2004 Author Posted June 29, 2004 Is there a way to make the domain name through you? Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 You will have to renew the domain at dotdomain.com and then after it's renewed it can be transferred. Quote
TCH-Don Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 If it has expired, you can not transfer it, you will have to renew it through your current register. Quote
Barbara Posted June 29, 2004 Author Posted June 29, 2004 The problem is I thought that is what I had done originally. I remember asking about this when I started with this company. Quote
Barbara Posted June 29, 2004 Author Posted June 29, 2004 The other problem is this group is not letting me renew the name even though I am supposed to be the owner of the name. Is there a way I can go through someone else??? Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 Unfortunately you must not have transferred it. You can go to http://www.internic.com/whois.html and enter your domain name. It will show dotregistrar.com as the current registrar. Quote
Barbara Posted June 29, 2004 Author Posted June 29, 2004 Ok, is there a way to change that without going through dotregistrar? They told me in the email I have thirty days to renew; but will they answer my emails and allow me to renew it? Quote
Barbara Posted June 29, 2004 Author Posted June 29, 2004 Well what I really mean is what happens if they dont? I want to get it out of dotregistrar and move it to you guys, and technically I think I should be able to do that. However I feel like the name is frozen./ Quote
TCH-Don Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 You can not transfer when the domain is with in so many days of expiring. And yours has expired. Your only way is to renew, then wait 60 days and then you can transfer. When you transfer you will get another year added on. Quote
TCH-Don Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 You should have an account with them where you can log in at their web site and renew. Quote
Barbara Posted June 29, 2004 Author Posted June 29, 2004 They are telling me I registered through an agent, which is NOT TRUe, and that the only way I can renew it is through this agent. Please help me, I don't think what they are doing is legal. Quote
TCH-Dick Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 The domain name IS frozen, you have to renew it with http://www.dotregistrar.com/ then after it is renewed through them you can transfer it to us after 30-60 days, depends on what dotregistrars policy is. Quote
Barbara Posted June 29, 2004 Author Posted June 29, 2004 Ok I understand that now. The only problem is they aren't letting me renew. And they are telling me I have to contact an agent bc that is how ti was registered orignally (which isn't true.) Is this common practice? Quote
Barbara Posted June 29, 2004 Author Posted June 29, 2004 Why is it that I can't renew my own domain name when it was registered in my name? :-( Quote
TCH-Don Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 Do you still have the e-mails from when you registered the domain? from that e-mail there should be a link and login info to access your account. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 I was gonna say the same as Don did + that the dotregistrar should be able to tell who this agent is and how to contact them to solve it. Quote
Barbara Posted June 29, 2004 Author Posted June 29, 2004 From DotRegistrar's email to me: This domain was originally registered through a company called Feature Price, and this is the reason why it is currently placed in their account. This company went out of bussiness and was taken over by MammothData.com; it was for this reason that I directed you to them to have the domain reactivated. Of course there's another renewal option. This is, you open an account at DotRegistrar and transfer the domain there. This transfer will provide the domain with another registration year, thus renewing it. These are the instructions you'll have to follow to get your domain moved to your account and renewed: ) Open an account at DotRegistrar: Log into www.dotreg.com <http://www.dotreg.com>; and select the option "Open an Account!" 2) Make an initial purchase of 1 DRY (domain registration year = $15.99) 3) Create a profile for your domain; 4) Click over the profile you've just created; 5) Select the option "Initiate Transfer": Enter your domain name without the "www" and hit the button "Send" 6) Approve the transfer: By replying to the request email you will have received, replacing the word REQUIRED for the word APPROVED in the email's subject line. Your domain will get renewed as a result of the transfer and you will have 100% control over it as well. " Well now it begins to make sense.... this was all very reminiscent of last year's debacle with Feature Price. Should I trust this and do it? Barbara Quote
TCH-Don Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 I don't see any other choice except to wait 30-60 daysfor them to delete the domain and then re register, but I don't see that as a practical way. At least they are giving you an option and you will get another year. then after 60 days you can transfer to where ever you want. Quote
Deverill Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 I'd contact MammothData.com and see if they could help me. How could dotregister transfer it if it's suspended? It sounds weird to me at best. Email the support folks at MammothData.com and see if they can give you an answer you are comfortable with. Quote
