From DotRegistrar's email to me:
This domain was originally registered through a company called Feature
Price, and this is the reason why it is currently placed in their
account. This company went out of bussiness and was taken over by
MammothData.com; it was for this reason that I directed you to them to
have the domain reactivated.
Of course there's another renewal option. This is, you open an account
at DotRegistrar and transfer the domain there. This transfer will
provide the domain with another registration year, thus renewing it.
These are the instructions you'll have to follow to get your domain
moved to your account and renewed:
) Open an account at DotRegistrar:
Log into www.dotreg.com <http://www.dotreg.com>; and select the option
"Open an Account!"
2) Make an initial purchase of 1 DRY (domain registration year = $15.99)
3) Create a profile for your domain;
4) Click over the profile you've just created;
5) Select the option "Initiate Transfer":
Enter your domain name without the "www" and hit the button "Send"
6) Approve the transfer:
By replying to the request email you will have received, replacing the
word REQUIRED for the word APPROVED in the email's subject line.
Your domain will get renewed as a result of the transfer and you will
have 100% control over it as well. "
Well now it begins to make sense.... this was all very reminiscent of last year's debacle with Feature Price.
Should I trust this and do it?
