TCH-Rob Posted May 28, 2004 Author Posted May 28, 2004 Nevermind Don, Dick says we get to take a break for a while. I can use it, I need some practice with my new kukri. Quote
TCH-Rob Posted May 28, 2004 Author Posted May 28, 2004 Thomas, A kukri or Khukuri is a knife used by the military peoples of Nepal. It is like a machette, a little smaller and forward swept. They are actually quite popular with the Indian army and police in Singapore as well. They average 30 to 38 cm in length. The kukri was developed in the 1600's though one can find similar blades crafted by the Egyptians, Greeks, Macedonians and Romans. The earliest drawings of the Indian version are at about 600AD. Although it is used as a tool for digging and cutting foods it gets its reputation as a fighting weapon. The design is such that used correctly it will easily sever limbs and remove heads from shoulders. All in all, a fun little knife. I will see if I can post a picture of mine tomorrow. For now you can see some at http://www.random-abstract.com/kukri/ Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted May 28, 2004 Posted May 28, 2004 Thanks Rob Yes, it would be cool to see it. It is like a machette, a little smaller and forward swept. Makes me remember the line in Crocodile Dundee... "That´s not a knife. This is a knife" Quote
Boojum Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 Makes me remember the line in Crocodile Dundee..."That´s not a knife. This is a knife" Funny: I remember it as, "Now, that's a knife!" Quote
TCH-Rob Posted May 29, 2004 Author Posted May 29, 2004 (edited) That was a knife alright. This can compare. For Thomas I have included a picture. I have also come to the conclusion that I need a new digi-cam. Edited May 29, 2004 by TCH-Rob Quote
TCH-Don Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 LOL "Now thats a knife" Have you tried the various settings for exposure, and a nutral background, like a light cloth and maybe natural light. Quote
TCH-Rob Posted May 29, 2004 Author Posted May 29, 2004 Don, It is an HP C200. 1 Mega-pixel and 1 exposure setting. I couldn't get enough sunlight through the window and I don't have a cloth I use regularly for taking pictures of the knives. They all have a coat of gun oil on them to preserve the blade, don't want that to rub off on a good towel or anything. Really, I just need a new camera. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 Now we are talking knife. :Nerd: Can i borrow it next time i eat beef? Quote
TCH-Rob Posted May 29, 2004 Author Posted May 29, 2004 Can i borrow it next time i eat beef? It would only be useful if you were going to the field to catch a cow yourself. Quote
Bunni Posted May 30, 2004 Posted May 30, 2004 If you need that knife when eating beef, Thomas, you are cooking it too long! Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted May 30, 2004 Posted May 30, 2004 For the Crocodile knife question: http://www.northernelectric.ca/medieval/quotes.htm Quote
