I tried to email myself from my website, but my DH has our Outlook Express set where we can't send emails from websites, and I don't know how to change it. I need to test my email from my site to make sure it works properly. Can someone please send me a test email? Thanks www.lisafrase.com

Okay, now I have real problem. My website is still "out there". I need to take it down. I have new page to publish. First - how do I take down the old site (remove it from the internet), and put up my new page. P.S. Last summer, I had trouble publishing. Someone told me how to write my address (I think it had ftp in it) so that it would work. In my old program it just popped up. It doesn't do that now, and I don't remember how to write it in. Help!!!

A couple of questions. I went to my webmail in cpanel. I click on one of the email things thinking I would be signing up for an email address, but what I found was actual email, and a bunch of it. I don't know what all of these emails are about. Some are like "go to our directory and update your info." I'd like to know what that is all about. Second, I thought that I could get email through my hosting package (right?). So how do I set it up so I have an email address, and how can I create a link so that people can email me at my website?

Well...I pretended like I was brave and hit the FP import button, then I crossed my fingers and said a prayer. It worked! I made three folders: one for all of the pages for my new website, one for all of the pages for my old website, and one for a page to replace my old website and redirect visitors. Now off to try and remember how to do links...yikes...

I just uploaded my new FP 2003. I started building a new website. I'm going to purchase a seperate domain name and hosting account for my new site. How do I remove my old site and get it where I can access in my new FP? I want to move some of the pages from my old site to my new site. Next, I want to rebuild some pages on my old site. How do I keep the two sites seperate in FP so they don't get mixed up? If I could get help here and get past this hurdle, I think the rest will be okay...thanks!

If I buy a new domain name, do I need to buy another hosting package?

I banged my head up against the computer last summer to create my website. A couple of weeks after I launched, my computer crashed. My computer was bought second-hand and already had FP loaded on it. That's what I used. Well, I lost FP when my computer crashed. I finally (too little time and too little money) ordered a copy of FP 2003. I have a few questions: 1. How do I save my website? I don't want to lose the content. I also want to transfer some of the content to a second website. 2. I want to take my old website and domain name and put a hold on it. I want to use it in the future for another venture. I plan to take it down, put up a page with a link to a new website. I need to purchase a second domain name and seperate hosting plan. I'm essentially wanting a commercial website. What do I need to do to keep both sites and both names? I don't want a sub domain. I actually want a completely different site. Does this make sense?

I kind of understand sub domains, but not 100%, so I'll ask a specific question w/a scenario to see if what I'm thinking works as a sub domain: If I want to separate my class website from my commercial website, can I make my class a sub domain? How do I go about providing a web address for my class w/o linking w/my commercial section? Does that make sense? I don't mind linking my commercial (teacher) site to my class, but I would like to keep my class separate.

I know how to put a solid background in a table, but is there a way to put a background that I've downloaded from the web into a table? I'm thinking of a background in the table that is different from the page background. I've seen it on other sites. It looks like layers. I can't figure out how they do it.

Never mind. I got it. I had to delete my old index page and then save my new one. I had a few heart drop to my stomach moments, but it works.

I made a new index page. I save it as index. It asked if I wanted to save it over the existing file. I said yes. I published. The old index page is still there. Is there something else that I need to do?

If I try w/o the public_html, do I need to "unload" first? Also, I still don't know about this business of having an index.htm folder in my public_html file on my cpanel. A help desk lady said it was suppose to be there and that I need to update it. I attempted to create an index folder, but it said it already existed. Should I forget about that or do something else?

I just saw the same thing. I was getting ready to ask about that. I clicked on file, publish, typed in ftp://ftp.lisafrase.com/public_html/ and then I clicked publish. It just started working and then said it was done. I have that problem and some broken links, missing buttons and banners...yikes... Can anyone explain why it has to have the public_html at the end? What can I do about it?

So close...yet so far away. I did what you said. No luck w/http, so I tried the ftp. It started to work. Files were going. Victory was so close. Then it seemed (right towards the end) to get stuck on a file...for a long time. I didn't dare touch it. Then it came up and said it was timed out and something about 900 seconds and hit ok. So I hit ok. The whole thing just went down the tubes. Why did it do that?

www.lisafrase.com I clicked File - Publish. The box pops up. In the box w/the http://, I added my url. It looked like http://www.lisafrase.com. I clicked options and clicked on the secure server (that's what my book says to do - is that messing me up?). I clicked ok. I get a box that says my server doesn't have FP extentions - do I want to change to FTP. That's where I get stuck. My cpanel shows I have FP extentions installed. The help desk says it's installed. What am I missing here?

If the public_html directory is in my manage files folder, and I'm suppose to have index.htm in that folder - is that done in my cpanel or in FP? There was a "create folder" in the manage files folder. Do I create a index.htm folder? Would that solve the problem? My homepage is named index.htm.

Bit off more than I can chew allright...try this is assignment #22 in 5 short weeks and 1 - 21 entailed hours and of hours of work - this on top of another major course. Ok...I'm trying to calm down here. I have FP 2000 for Dummies. I thought this was going to be the easy part.

Let me tell you that I am not exaggerating whe I say that I am sitting here in tears. I registered my domain name on Monday. I wanted plenty of time to make sure this worked before my class deadline. First they tell me the name servers are all wrong and then I have to wait longer for this propagation thing. I did what everyone said - typed in my url and waited until a list of stuff came up instead of page not displayed. I tried to publish. I get a message about need FP extensions installed. I looked in my cpanel. It says their installed. I contact help desk. They say their installed. Then this other lady tells me that I need to have this public folder. In my email it says it must be uploaded to the public_html directory, but then it goes onto say "for FP users" - so I upoload to my domain name like it says. I don't even know what or where this public directory is. After the help desk tells me about this I check my cpanel. I find it, but I don't know what to do about it. Then she sends me this link that makes no sense to me. It's FP 2002. I have 2000. The directions are weird and I don't get what that has to do w/this public directory. I've been on the computer from the time I get up till 2 or 3 in the morning for a solid month. I've banged my head against it until it's bruised - metaphorically speaking that is. My knowledge is limited. I just need to get this website online. I'm tired and frustrated. Sorry for just going off here but I just can't seem to get a break. I don't have much time left.

I am still having trouble publishing. I did a help desk ticket. They tell me that my public_html folder needs to be updated (how was I suppose to know this?) and that I need to have a file w/index.php/.htm/.html. So I look in my cpanel, but I don't know how to update the file. I asked but got linked to FP how-to instead. I don't know why they couldn't give me a direct answer. Can someone please tell how to do this?

I found out that my name servers are incorrect. I'm on hold w/ Proxy at this very moment. Hopefully I can get this resolved and try again in a little while. Thanks!
