Two questions really (sorry if I'm in the wrong forum - I'm bad about that): 1. Is there a script in cpanel to set up newsletters? If so, how does it work? 2. Is there a script to create directories? If so, how does it work? P.S. (Okay - make that three questions) I had a forum. I had to shut it down due to spam. Does anyone know how to turn the spam off? How do I make sure only registered and approved guests get to post? I'd like to reopen the forum, but not if I have to remove hundreds of spams everyday. I just don't have time for that. Also, my big problem is lack of directions. Is there "forums for dummies" directions anywhere?

Can you use this SpamKarma to block spam on forums, or is it just for blogs? I had to shut down my forum because of the spam. I didn't know enough about the mgmt. panel to control it. If I install the Wordpress blog - is it just for me to blog, or does it open it up for others to blog too?

What is a subdomain? And how does it work? Is it ok if I want to use my name's sake website for more than type of site? For example, I want to sell handcrafted jewelry from my site, but my site is mostly a classroom site at this time. What if I did my jewelry as www.name.com/jewelry? And kept my classroom pages in tact? Does that make sense? Would I be breaking some sort of rule?

All of a sudden I can't open my file manager. The files are not there. It says there is an internal error and that I don't have permission. HELP!

I can open the PDF file on my computer in my browser. I can't open the PDF file from my website. Is it possible that there is something that needs to be tweaked in my cpanel?

I have the most current version of Adobe Acrobat Reader. Is that different from a PDF plugin? How do I look to see if I have this, and how do I get it if I don't? I'm contemplating purchasing a PDF creator software package off ebay.

I apologize in advance if I put this in the wrong forum. Here are my questions: 1. I created a PDF file w/an online free service. They emailed it to me. I saved it to my computer, imported it to Frontpage, created a link and uploaded it, but it won't open online. What could I be doing wrong? 2. Is there a way to save PDF files on my website as ebooks, and then provide private url links to it when I sell the books? 3. Is there a way to set up a cart and auto email to sell my ebooks? Thanks. Mae

Problem solved. We apparently had two different spy webroot programs that were conflicting w/each other. DH removed one, and everything cleared up. Thanks!

My computer has slowed down to ridiculous. Not just the Internet - everything. Yesterday, it shut it self down and rebooted 3 times! It freezes up causing me to have to do a hard boot. This morning the desktop was gone. I had to reboot. I have DSL. We have virus protection and spy web protection. We've cleaned out cookies and files. We tried to run a Microsoft update but it was unsuccessful. Is there anything else to check? What could be causing all of this?

What is slash dotted? And how "much" is "a lot"? Hundreds of hits, thousands, thousands upon thousands? In how much time?
-
I've heard people say that they have had so many hits in a day that their server couldn't support it, or it crashed their website. Can this happen? How many hits would it take for that to occur?

SUCCESS AT LAST!!! Ok, I'm a real doorknob...don't laugh at me (I need a blushing icon here). I was clicking on public_html, and not on the icon, so my pages were outside rather than inside. Tom (my hero...) from TCH live help desk fixed me up and got me straight (where has be been all this time?). I WROTE DOWN the steps, so I won't forget next time. I did learn some interesting new things from all of you guys trying to help me. THANKS for putting up w/someone who built a website using FP for Dummies (literally)

I changed the settings and I tried control F6...no change.

I uploaded my files to my cpanel by clicking on file manager and then public_html. After browsing and clicking upload, the files to the right (the ones I uploaded) say they already exist (I've been trying to do this for almost a week). So I clicked on the file and looked at it - it's the new stuff I created, but when I go to my actual website the new stuff isn't there. What's going on? Did I miss a step? Why isn't the new stuff showing up?

The other day the help desk couldn't get in w/my un & pw, even though I could, so they changed it. It could be messed up. I'll open a ticket and see.

I did it. It came up, but then it said log in failed. I used my un and pw for my cpanel - is that the wrong one?

Her directions show C:>ftp Should I leave of the C:> ?

I found where settings is on my computer. I clicked to allow access to FTP settings, but it wants the IP address of the computer that hosts my website (I think that is what it means). Where do I get that? Or do I even understand what I'm looking at?
-
I followed your directions. I typed in the ftp sentence. I clicked enter. I was not prompted. Instead it just makes a new like that says documents and settings with my name.
-
When you say "settings", are you talking about "proxy" settings? I do believe that this has been my problem from the beginning. I do have another site and it is with TCH and I can click publish from FP and it works fine. I have never been able to do that w/this second site, and hours of working w/the help desk has never accomplished anything. They finally showed me how to publish through cpanel, which has worked up until now. Everytime I've asked about this proxy setting thing I have been ignored. A help desk guy just now told me to check those settings - but didn't tell me what they are or how to do it even though I told him that I don't know. This is so frustrating. I'm printing out your directions and crossing my fingers.
-
I tried public_html and clicked overwrite files as suggested - no change. This is driving me crazy. I should be able to upload by clicking publish on FP, but it has never worked, although it works fine for my other website. I've been able to publish by going through my cpanel, and now that doesn't work. The help desk keeps saying everything is working fine -well, if it's working fine, then why can't I publish? I don't know what you guys mean by getting "ftp client" or whatever.
-
I went to upload 2 changed pages and 1 new page. I went into my cpanel as usual. I clicked on file manager, and then ftp_public. I added my 3 pages and clicked upload. Nothing changed. I've tried several times. I put in a ticket - no help. What's happening?

I've been sick for about a month, and haven't been on my forum. I just went on and found dozens of spam items, including some really sick ones. I've been deleteing one by one. Can someone please tell me how to make my forum registered user only? And does anyone know how to delete a bunch of inappropriate posts at once? Also, how do I ban these freaks with nothing better to do with their lives? I really don't know the ins and outs of managing my forums. I can't have this awful stuff on there - it's a teacher's forum for heavens sake. Please help. I feel like crying after seeing some of the nasty junk people are posting.

I keep hearing about CSS and about Scripts? What are they exactly and how do they work? I understand they are available in our cpanel. I've tinkered around and looked at the definition, but it's like reading algebra when you are only in 3rd grade. Where can you get the "dummies" version of information?
