  1. from reading a bit on the changes, i believe so. i had that exact problem (exploited) with my browser. and it seems to be solved now that i have upgraded.
  2. it's sad how these exploits of java (which i can't stand either) and flash can be used for something other then legitimate uses, which then blocks quality information as well as the spam we all hate. and ads.. i've found that pop-under, or forwarding you to the ad, then you have to hit the back button to get the actual content. but that's another thread java has it's uses, i just wish it was possible to make it quicker
  3. I think it's still invite only, but from the looks of things, everyone who has ever wanted one has one right now as invites are so readily available all over the place.

  5. i found this particular website from browsing around, and i find it outstanding that someone can create such a beautiful website... i know it's flash, and alot of actionscript but beyond that, someone needs to have alot of talent to create something like this although i'm trying! (playing around with flash right now.. anyways. enjoy! http://2advanced.com/
  6. Thanks for the heads up Thomas
  7. Tubehead, welcome to the forums just to reiterate though. for a script of what you are after you are most likely going to have to pay for it, as it does give you the oppurtunity to make money.. i would suggest learning css, and html just in order to customize to your needs. honestly it's not as hard as some people think. i started not a few months ago and i'm doing great with the learning process.. also there are mods for CMS's (content management systems) that do that.. you may want to take a peak at phpnuke. i believe they have a dating system but don't hold me too it.. As well as i would also say if your looking for something more then a simple webpage, get away from frontpage. i would suggest dreamweaver, or homesite, but if you can't afford anything, there are also many free wysiwyg editors which can be found on download.com enjoy! and good luck

    Xoops

Hi Greg, i tried Xoops as well. i liked it but it didn't work too well with your own documents, and was fairly hard to customise the way i wanted too.. I've tried alot of CMS's from *nuke, drupal, xoops, mambo and more. but i have found dragonflycms to be the best one out there. in my experiences anyways. it's still really new. only came out last november so there aren't alot of mods or what not but i find it very promising... Drupal is nice as well I hope you find something you enjoy Patricia
  9. They have a blog, calendar, and irc chat module (front end for an actual irc chat) in the downloads section. if you prefer something else you could always insert sigmachat or another one in yourself. regards, Patricia
  10. at times anyways
  11. I hope it works out for you DJ. and if those old records have blips, i'm sure you can check download.com for some deblipping and scratch removal software making them just like new again. good luck!
  12. I at first absolutely love frames, and they do look nice, but after reading on SEO, and how frames can be a bad idea if you want to be noticed i'd have to say no frames for me anymore.
  13. Hi Don, i tried it but i don't think i gave it a fair chance.. but i do want to say that i opened up a ticket, and i was helped by two very helpful staff here at TCH. although they weren't able to help me, they certainly tried, and that means so much more to me then just a simple no. i really believe that they at least checked it out for me to understand my situation. and that is what i think exemplifies great customer service.. thanks a bunch! now to find me a chat script i will take a peak at phpmychat again as well
  14. Thanks for the reply David, i'll do that. if it doesn't that's okay. i'll just have to prowl the internet again for a simpler chat room =) thanks again
  15. i tried to edit it without double posting but i couldn't find the edit button.. anyways. i was just wondering if this is even possible for me to do, and if it is in the fair use policy for TCH. these are the instructions on how to compile? i'm still not sure what that means.. Sorry if i'm nagging or if this is against the rules here at TCH i'm new to this kind of thing. . i'm just very interested in this chat room Patricia
  16. My hobbies are computers (of course) music, composing, and listening, and travelling. (i've been to 19 countries so far and counting!) and my newest one is posting in the TCH forums lol

  18. hi abinidi, I believe www.dragonflycms.com can fill all those needs and more. it has a module for a chat room, blog, forums with integrated private email, calender support, and coppermine photo gallery is also incorporated into the software bundle.. it's what i use for my website. and i couldn't be happier. only thing that i can see , is that if your not profiecient in cms's or if you don't know much about web developement sometimes it can be daunting but they have a great support forums. hope this helps! 20. I use firefox as well and i couldn't be happier, from what i understand, that the main difference between firefox and IE is compliancy. IE tends to not like compliant pages, or at least websites designed for IE specifically are not compliant.. that's my understanding anyways. and it is of course a very broad generalization. As well i have to agree with Striver. Microsoft themselves recommend not using ActiveX as it is usually the main place hackers and others willing to attack maliciously since it is so unsafe.. but that said, i use IE for web development as it has been around longer, and there are websites that are built mainly for IE which i still want to view. and again, it's 85% of the internet population using it but i think 25 million users for firefox is pretty good taking into consideration that it is a third party browser, and didn't come with most of the OS's out there ('cept those *nix gurus and Mac users) =)
  21. Mr Lucas, yes i can see that being a problem, but that's why someone should get .com .net .org and perhaps the rest of them of your domain name, and have them point towards your website.. it may sound like it costs alot, but in reality, if it's a business site, it may save you some pain, agony and even bring more business to you. and since apparently (via godaddy) that it is legal for someone to pick up a domain name with "sucks" on the end of it, and they can use your domain, i guess with freedom of speech, or if they don't like say "ford" or what not.. i guess that might be a good idea as well to pick those up. who says planning for the future is a bad thing =) But if it's just a domain for your interests, it may sound like a big investment. its up to you though. Patricia
  22. Hi abinidi, i quite enjoy Drupal, and used it for a while but then i saw a cms called CPG-Nuke, aka Dragonfly. It is a complete redo of Php-nuke, so much so that you could barely see the similarities.. It is also fully XHTML, CSS and HTML compliant, and is only 2 megs without extra modules and very secure.. that's the one i'd suggest, but Drupal is about as good as it gets as well http://www.dragonflycms.com Patricia
  23. Well for anyone interested still about chat programs i think i've found the best one out there that uses the smallest amount of resources.. it's called voodoo chat. http://www.vochat.com for instance, "616 simultaneous users online (with new C++ voc-daemon, which was eating 1-3% of Pentium 4 2.4GHz and 18Mbytes of memory for that number of visitors)" is this considered fair use? as well as the bandwidth, per month for even that amount of users is well below my alloted monthly limit.. A question though. the daemon in which allows it to be faster, and use less resources, needs to be "turned on" and or compiled via root, which i do not have, is it possible to open a ticket and request this? If so i can send a detailed instruction to do so. thanks a bunch, Patricia
  24. Thanks everyone for welcoming me to the forums =) thanks Jason for recommending that to me, i'll have to find that little program.. myichat.. thanks!
  25. Thanks Thomas. and i'm sure there will be =) good to be here *smile*
