  3. Hello there, I have received an email from my ISP telling me that I can no longer use their smtp server. This is not a problem for the email accounts I have here, as they are already set up to work through my domain. But,....... I also have two fastmail imap accounts. Can I set these to run through the smtp server at my domain? Thanks in advance
  4. Imagine my delight at seeing a contest link on the TCH front page.........and then as it crumbled to dismay, dissaray, and um .... sadness,..... yes sadness that'll do, try to imagine my extreme sadness that the contest had ended weeks ago! Yours inconsolably (although an ipod would help)

For example There are currently X downloads for Y OS in Z categories. Also would like a latest X download type comment. Can anyone point me in the right direction please? All help massively appreciated Thanks John

  12. Thank you so much David, fantastically helpful. I can now tinker away on my home machine and not have to refresh after each change.
  13. Thanks I'll look into that. Interestingly I just found that TOAD have made a TOAD for Mysql so will download that and have a play as well. That is exactly what I'm after, I dont really need all thee bells and whistles - and certainly not loading a web page each time. Does anyone have any experience of accessing dbs remotely? I'm guessing the port would be the one shown in the url when opening myphpadmin. But what would the host be? If anyone knows much appreciate the answer, If not I'll create a ticket and post the syntax here. (it's lovely and sunny in England today! wooo hoooo) John
  14. Hello, I was just wondering how people connect to their mysql databases? At the moment I am using the php admin tool in the cpanel. Although its functional it's not great. I use to love a tool called toad which worked with Oracle databases. Does anyone know of anything similar for mysql, and have they got it working with the remote databases at TCH?? thanks John
  15. cool. thanks. have raised a ticket.
  16. Ok, I guess I'll just hand on then
  17. Thanks guys! In your experience how long does it usually take to get a new account setup? Am raring to go!! cheers John
  18. Oh that is superb ! I'd not even considered that. Thanks.
  19. hello ! Just to clarify what scoop is....check out; http://www.kuro5hin.org/ thats probably the best example of the engine. It really is quite lovely when it is up and running. Looking forward to having the account up and running so I can get building !!
  20. another update; After reading lots of the forum, and around the site; I have signed up here. I think I have gone for the basic resellet as I have two domains. So once it's all ready to play with I'll have a go at installing MT following the instructions and guides here. If anyone has any experience of scoop, please do get in touch. Looking forward to being able to get up and running! thanks again for all help, info and advice John
  21. Hi, Thanks all for the replies. I'm overwhelmed. The current siutation is this; Within moments of posting to this board, xlan got in contact with me saying they owe me a database and that one of their customers sets up MT blogs for $25. Well, I said sure, put me in touch with her. She replied that did set them up. I replied to her that I was interested,....and I have heard no more. I'm getting very tired and annoyed very quickly with the service I'm getting from xlan. I have no idea what the terms to my hosting are - if I am locked in, in any way. Foremost what is keeping me there is that I have also have a scoop web site. However, that is a shambles at the moment - and I would have no hesitation restarting it. Although I have no idea how to install scoop - which is why I went with xlan, as scoop install came as part of the service. Should I move to TCH, could I get some assistance installing scoop? as well as MT? I'm not a complete computer novice - I have worked as a test analyst for the last eight years, but I am dealing here with technologies I know little about. Sorry for the ramble...am tired and frustrated now John
  22. Thank you both very much for such a lovely welcome. Makes a pleasant chancge to so many boards online.
  23. first I should say that I have searched the net for installation help, and this place seems like the best there is. Is it only available to customers of Total Choice Hosting? I didnt know you guys existed until I started searching for help on MT installation. I have some space at xlan. I got in touch with the admin guy there and he set up three directories; domainname_cgi domainname_html domainname_logs Is that a workable way of running this? I'd rather get it right first time round, nd hopefully encounter no problems later on. Who wouldnt though eh? (he also mentioned something about turning off "UseLocking" in the mt.cfg file.) Sadly, they dont seem to be the best at responding to questions - which is why I am grovelling elsewhere. The installation guides I have found suggest a different structure. So that for one confuses me. I also have a scoop site at xlan - which I suspect is mysql based - but have no idea of any of the mysql details. I really am stuck with this, anyone who can help - please do! As I have the free distro of MT I cant ask them for installation help. But if anyone else can do it, I'll happilly paypal them the money. Sorry again, if this is not in the right place, applicable or appropriate. Thanks john I'm on msn at mulholland_john [at] hotmail.com or can be mailed at johnmulholland [at] fastmail.fm EDIT: I've edited your email address to prevent spam bots from collecting it.
