hiiiieeee ya !! Anyone able to put together a little logo for me? My graphical ability extends only as far as making abstract pictures using the square color fill tool in mspaint. I can even chuck a few pennies into a paypal account for it if you like. My fingers are crossed here - well not literally, it would be hard to type - but well, figuratively. Bu wait, I here you say - I have the same artistic ability as you. Though, I sometimes use the circle tool. But, I'd like to help, how can I? I am glad you asked Here is the site I am building ......... go on, click it you KNOW you want to ..... and as you can see at the moment it has this dodgy tempate graphic. That needs to go. And quickly. What do you think the logo should look like? Should it be rectangles of different colors? Of course not. cheeers big ears, john

By TCH Administrators are you referring to the board admin on this forum? I dont think the board admin and the support desk are the same people. Best to raise a ticket at the help desk. From this page click web hosting home (in the banner) then choose the help desk sub option from the support menu.

I have the same problem, and I think it has something to do with the owner permissions on the web server. For some strange reasons some directories and files are installed/uploaded without the owner being set. This means that you cant modify the files, delete them etc... I think there are two ways you can go about this. The first is to ask the wonderful people on the support desk to set you as the owner. This should be a relatively easy and quick thing for them to do. Although it must be mundane and frustrating at times. The alternative is to download an administrator component called mambo xplorer. This will give you full access to do whatever - in a file manager style using mambo - on the server. It might not be able to do all things though. Still it is certainly worth checking out. Hope that all helps

Rescue Info From A Screwed Up Tar.gz File
pompey_john replied to pompey_john's topic in Scripting Talk
I tried Total Commander, and it couldnt get into the file then after much googling I found a program called tar repair or (something like that) which also could not get into it. So now I am stuck with a backup I cant get into. And really need to. Do you know if TCH provide backups in special circumstances like this? I really hope so. Thanks for the tips though Don, it was certainly worth a try. -
Hi there, I ran a full backup the other day which generated a (monster 500 meg) tar.gz file. I opened this up in Ark (I use ubuntu) and to make things a bit easier I started deleting the content inside the archive that I didnt need. And then my laptop overheated and shut itself off. Now I cant get into the archive. Anyone know of a good recovery zipfix type tool. Pref linux but win32 is fine. Fingers crossed someone does, because the account has since been deleted and this backup file is my only hope of recovering some much needed graphics files! Thanks in advance

sorry have nothing to add solution wise, but suggest you ask over at mambers

Hello, I was just thinking I'd like some t-shirts and branded mugs and stuff made up. Perhaps have this included as an element on the site. Any recommendations? Thanks,

this pic from bottom I have been looking all around the net, but cant find it - or anything like it - anywhere. I think the one in the screenshot is basically a demo and proof of concept. But does anyone know of something similar or have a download link?

A Spanish lecturer has been sacked for defending the legality of P2P networks. It is big news in Spain, but so far has barely been reported outside. The full story, appears here.

I am sorry I have no idea how to get your content indexed by the website. David's explanation sounds likely. The biggest issue with CC seems to be attribution. For audio there are positive steps; CC Mixter. However, it is still a huge - if not the main - hurdle that needs to be overcome. Also many people have concerns about the large number of CC licenses there aree, and how they interact. Recently the number of licenses has come down. I think there are five at present. I expect it to reduce further still. I have a link on my site Open Source Music Info that points to a good intro on the CC site. That link appears to be down at the moment, but I am sure is a good link. Here is another link (which is also on my site) of a very good video created by CC Australia. Also I attended a symposium (Music Commons) recently with some intersting speakers. One of them was Paula De Lieu; Director of Creative Commons International. She gave a fantastic talk about CC. Dave at Music Commons is in the process of encoding the video of the conference for download. I am sure that in time there will be audio only files. At the moment they are huge files - and unless you have Quicktime Pro you'll not be able to see them. (It seems to be some sort of codec problem.) When that is resolved I'll mirror them on my site, and post a reply here to say they are live. Hope that all helps

The ISP is British Telecom. I phoned them up ages ago when setting up broadband and they happily gave me the smtp server details. Then just the other day I got a mail saying that only users of their special BT/Yahoo service can use the smtp server. Well I am not paying more for the same broadband service just so I get a yahoo acount. The swines. ln the end I just upgraded my fastmail account so I am using their smtp server now. I have to say I have been very happy with fastmail, and would recommend them to anyone. A first class service; although having .fm at the end of my email address has thrown quite a few people who presume it will be .com or even .co.uk. Upgrading their was always the most likely way forward, I was just hoping there was a free alternative,...possibly here. To answer the question about spamming. No, I have not been spamming. I can honestly say I do not have the first idea how to go about it. And if I did, I certainly would not. There is enough nonsense traffic online already. For example, I did got a rather interesting mail. It appears to be a variant of the Nigerian send money scam, this one coming from.... Chen Qingxuan, Lloyds TSB Pacific Limited, Hong Kong Branch. Does anyone know if there is a place I can report this?
