  1. Awesome idea. I'm using Movable Type (including several plugins, not sure if these would be an issue?) Simple Machines forums Ultimate FormMail
  2. I've been lurking quietly on this duscussion but I just had one thing I wanted to say. I left my last host (who are also located in Michigan, I will let you guess who they are!) because my Movable Type installation crashed their server during an attack by comment spammers, and they told me (in an astoundingly rude manner) that under no circumstances would I ever be allowed to run any version of MT on my account with them in future. If they had handled the problem in a more professional manner, they would not have lost my account. As it is, I tell everyone who will listen about my bad experience with them and my wonderful experience so far with TCH. I was somewhat alarmed at the idea that TCH was going the same direction as my old hosts after reading the mass e-mail this morning, but after coming here to read this thread I am so impressed by, and grateful for, the high level of professionalism that I am seeing displayed by TCH staff members. You guys (and girls) are the best- don't let the few who are freaking out and complaining get you down.
  3. Okay, thanks. But I'm still wondering if both URLs would work after creating the subdomain, or would only the subdomain URL work?
  4. I'm currently running a forum (using the Simple Machines forum script) at: http://www.lilirose.net/forum If I were to create a subdomain at http://forum.lilirose.net/ would both addresses then work to reach the forum? Or would doing this cause a problem somehow? I know I probably should have created the subdomain before I set up the forum, but I tend to be backward like that.
  5. I'm probably way late, but it works fine for me in Ireland, using Firefox.
  6. I'm an MT user who was one of the first to be hit by the new wave of server-crashing spammers. I signed up with TCH in November after my old host told me I was no longer allowed to use MT because it was crashing their server. We have taken several steps since moving to TCH to prevent further crashes. At this point I am running a total of five blogs. All are protected by the MT Blacklist plugin. Beyond that, two my blogs have moderated comments only, two have comments closed on all entries (allowing no new comments at all), and one has open comments but is completely hidden from search engines by its meta tags. To date that blog has not been spammed. Basically, I need to know if I am doing enough to protect my installtion from causing a server crash. Since I've already left one host because of this issue, I am very concerned about preventing it from happening again. Thanks in advance for any advice... Lili
  7. KungFòóFairy, thanks for your response, and I agree completely that it would be too extreme to block an entire ISP due to one user's idiocy- hence, my question. Head Guru, also, thanks so much for your response. At this point the situation is limited to a single offensive comment left on my blog, and I'm crossing my fingers that it won't escalate beyond that. I have a tendency to be slightly paranoid about things like this. I'll let you know if it goes any further, though. I knew I could come to this forum and get a straight answer quickly... you guys really do rock!
  8. Any chance you could be more specific? What does it mean?
  9. Someone has just posted an offensive comment to my blog, which I deleted. I have reason to think he'll be back, so I am considering blocking his IP address from my site, but I know that is often ineffective because many web users are given a different IP address every time they go online. However, when I looked up the IP address the troll was using when he left his comment, in the results under "comments" it says "ADDRESSES WITHIN THIS BLOCK ARE NON-PORTABLE". Does that mean that he's using a static IP address that I can safely block without also blocking anyone else who is using the same ISP? Or does it mean something else? I appreciate any help anyone can give me...
