  1. so he is dissatisfied with TCH customer support because his old registrar is disorganized? come on man, relax. I'm a skeptic, and I'm also all about instant gratification when it comes to customer support. Nothing irks me more than when a "customer support specialist" isn't specialized in supporting customers. However, I will honestly tell you, that in the realm of affordable shared server web hosting, you will not find a more consistant customer service base of people than TCH. The fact that you had 3 subsequent posts within 40 minutes from the president of the company before 5 AM should tell you that you are in the right place for service. Also, is that GMT or are you people really up at 4:30 AM???? chuck
  2. is that when the Browser pops up the authentication box? i'd rather have it integrated in the site itself. unless there is an explanation as to why that way would be more user friendly/functional/better? thanks...
  3. Hi all- I'm looking for a good PHP User Auth script or class that I can add to my sites for authentication purposes. Right now, I'd like open source freeware, so that it's free (duh) and that I can customize it and learn from it as I go. I've seen hotscripts and sourceforge, but there are so many out there, so I'm asking here to see if anyone has used one that they have found to be easy to set up. Thanks in advance, Chuck
  4. also be careful, (and I don't know every detail about this), but if you have php scripts on a shared server, anyone who has access to the server, can view your scripts. So based on that, if you needed to log into a MySQL DB from a php interface, those DB passwords could potentially be compromised. There is something about running PHP on the server in "Safe Mode", but I also do not really know what this is. Thankfully, I do not have sensative private data on my DB's and in my scripts, so I have not had to explore this yet. Hope this helps, and if anyone knows more specifics, I'd love to know them, or a good resource to read up on it. chuck
  5. Sure, anytime....
  6. The easiest way to do it (in MX) is to create a new site, and then there will be a pop-up gui that will walk you through the process. You will need the server info and your login/pwd to put in the Site Definition-> Advanced Tab-> Remote Info area. Then you can work on your website, create your directory structure, etc... Then all you do is "Synchronize" the local site to your remote site, and DW will do the rest. Actually, DW will check the files, see which ones need to be updated, and then prompt you if you want to proceed (that way you don't overwrite live files if you don't want to)... Oh, and that Guest post from before was from me, I apparently was logged out from my work computer... If you have any other DW questions, you can send me an email or also, check out the sitepoint.com forums which, in addition to these forums, are another very valuable resource. chuck
  7. Paul- I was confused with this as well when I signed up. What you need is a reseller account. After you have that and you can login, you need to follow the really long informative email about all the different goodies TCH has. 1) Log into WebHost Manager and choose "Create a New Package". Here you will be making a default "package" of options your new accounts can have. In your case, you personally own your regalmedia site, and now have a regalmedia username/pwd. You also now (if you have a reseller account) can subtract the remaining webspace in your account and create a "package" with whatever space and bandwidth you estimate you won't use for www.regalmedia.com. 2) Then you choose "Create a New Account", which you will do for the sharkbyte account. Select that package you just defined and fill in the other info. WHM does the rest... You should now have a regalmedia and sharkbyte account. Update your DNS stuff and BAM there you go.... Did this help? chuck
  8. exactly, each website is associated with its own unique username. for example: www.acctnum1.com -> /home/acctnum1/public_html www.acctnum2.com -> /home/acctnum2/public_html Thats the way resellers work, so if you "resell" some of your server space, they don't need to have your username/pwd to get into their account... hope this clarifies.... chuck
  9. For SSH you still need to ask for it, for each account. You need to give TCH a valid technical reason for the request. Since this is for your businesses, I would email the Bosses and give them more specifics. Not sure about the DNS info...
  10. TCH has Apache Version 1.3.27 (Unix) TCH has PHP Version 4.2.3 with register_globals: Local Value=On; Master Value=On TCH has GD Version 2.0 or higher TCH has Mysql Version 3.23.54 Not sure about this, but if its an open-source project, couldnt you install it yourself in your own account?
  11. yeah i just want to second the thanks to the support team. you guys do a great job! thanks for all the help so far... chuck
  12. Lianna, Thanks for your help... My problem was the Host Directory, i had my entire path "/home/floridas/public_html", where i should have just had "public_html" of course, thats not how it was with my ex-host, so i guess thats the way FTP works with TCH. however, the FTP host can be "server12.totalchoicehosting.com" as well as the others you mentioned. Thanks so much! chuck (i thought you posted that you were out of town? how dedicated you are!)
  13. Hi all. I'm trying to set up DW MX to point to my account. I have a reseller account (username: chuckan) and i set up a new account (floridas) thru WHM. I'm trying to move my stuff from my old webserver to TCH via DW MX. I syncronized the remote files to my local machine, and then tried to "edit site" on the existing site to change the FTP information to the TCH info. Here's what I used: Access: FTP FTP Host: server12.totalchoicehosting.com Host Directory: /home/floridas/public_html Login: floridas Password: ********************* It appears that its connecting to the server, and then im getting the following error: "An FTP error occurred - cannot open remote folder /home/floridas/public_html/. 550 /home/floridas/public_html: No such file or directory" I read the FAQ on FTPing, but I seemed to be doing everything right (i think?).
  14. Thanks everyone, I didn't realize that each domain name had its own account (duh - "Create a New Account"!). Not used to that.... Thanks! Chuck
  15. ok... im back... through the WHM, I'm following the directions on the "Create A New Account" Doc page. After I fill out the info, I get the following: The thing is, im not trying to create a "package", just a different account (domain = account, right?) Is creating a Package inherant when I create a new account? Now should I fill out a help desk case? Thanks chuck
  16. Lianna, Once again, YOU ROCK!!! Gotta run now, but I will be back on here later! chuck
  17. I have a Simple Reseller account, and I am trying to add more domains to my server space. I am using the "Manage Addon Domains" tool in CPanel, but I get the following error: I assume that means that my account has not been activated for multiple domains? I opened a help desk ticket for it, but I want to make sure I'm not using the wrong tool. Thanks! Chuck
