Before I ask anything, what you offer is great. Anything else is just "butt'a". As a reseller, there are some things that I wouldn't mind seeing: 1) I have to check to be sure it doesn't exist already BUT if it doesn't: Ability to tie directly into Cpanel so scripts can add things (e-mail accounts, domains, etc.) 2) I am deathly afraid that a client, or future client, of mine might misuse their e-mail accounts. If I could limit the outgoing volume to prevent this I would love it. Sometimes people get weird ideas in their head about send 100's or maybe 1000's of e-mails. I'd like to stop them before it happens. I talk to EVERY client about spam and make them realize that this is a DEAL KILLER with no apologies. But people are people and human. I do miss SSH ... but I know that's a thorn. 3) You might use your moderators to build a knowledge base. As questions get asked, and answers are made, put the information in a continually expanding, but organized, knowledge base. It might reduce the questions of the forums. Forums are a good start, but the information gets hard to manage. Honestly there isn't much I can ask for. I chose TCH because they already HAD what I wanted. Kind of hard to go up from there! Thanks for the opportunity to suggest something! Thumbs Up Bill

I de-bugged your script. It was about 99% there and just had a few syntax errors. I'll give you a choice, you can give it a shot on your own, or I can give you the answer. If you're intending on building anything significant I suggest giving it a try with some guidance. I usually learn better from doing things myself. Here's a hint for you. Insert the following bolded line into the top of your code so you can see more descriptive errors: ********************** #!/usr/bin/perl use CGI; my $cgi = CGI->new(); use CGI::Carp qw(fatalsToBrowser); my $name = $cgi->param('name'); my $msg = $cgi->param('msg'); ********************** Give that a try and see if you can figure the rest out. If you get suck again, you can always ask for another hint. Good luck! Bill

It's a pretty common error. But your script looks fine. I would be looking into permissions at this point. Make sure your perl script is setl to 755. All executing perl scripts need this to work. I'll try it out on my end just in case that's not the error. Good luck! Bill

Help! My Site And Email Are Down, Want To Transfer
HCSuperStores replied to carpyeditor's topic in Pre-Sales Questions
You can still transfer your domain names using your registrar, where you bought your domain names. Usually this is different than your hosting company, but not always. What are your domain names? I'll look if you're having trouble find out what to do. If you're having trouble getting your web sites as they were, take a trip to the "Wayback Machine" at http://www.archive.org/. I was able to rescue a client of mine by using their information and created a relationship for life. I'm new here, but I've been around the web almost since it started. TCH has exceeded my expectations in many areas. Let me know if I can help you get things back up! Bill bill2002@adelphia.net Yahoo IM: bill_hermonat -
I Think I Found A New Home ...
HCSuperStores replied to HCSuperStores's topic in Reviews of TotalChoice Hosting
So far you've all been great. I love to give praise and I try to be patient when bad things happen. I'd just love to be a long-term advocate. Maybe, after I get my bearings, I'll volunteer for being a moderator for where my skills fit. Share the knowledge! I've found that Bill (head guru) actually works later than I do. Now that's impressive! Thnx, Bill -
Aparently I've found my answer. I tried to break the file load routine up and have it be a subprogram. However, this just didn't work. The perl code, for a lack of a better explanation, just seemed sensitive. I would work inside, in-line, but when made a subprogram, it bombed out with the error. I've got it working now. Thanks for trying! Bill

I just did this myself last night, exactly as you described. Worked great. Sounds like you might want to open up a ticket. You can try to repeat the process just in case something coughed, just to cover your bases. But from what you wrote, it looks good! Bill

Hi Bruce, Thanks for the suggestion, but from what I can tell I don't think that's it. It's like it's having a problem opening the file or getting to it. It never outputs the first "print" to show that it is reading the file. It's just weird. Like it's having trouble making the connection. Maybe I'm just stuck in the way I'm looking at it. But even if I comment out anything with what it does with the file it still gives the error. It just won't read the file. Yuck! Any other suggestions are welcome! Bill

Hi Guys, I've spent hours on this, checked and rechecked. I hate asking for script help ... I feel like I failed. The script I have has worked on another host, but I had issues with uploading a file with TCH from the start. Not sure why. I tried revamping it some, but it's just so darn simple it should work. Anyway here is the script. It's a subroutine that receives a file name from a form: #!/usr/bin/perl sub subgetimagefile { ##### Read in the image file ##### my ($imagefile) = @_; print "Image filepath length: ".length($imagefile)."<br>"; print "Image File: $imagefile<br>"; my $size=0; my $data; while (my $bytesread = read($data, my $buffer, 1024) or die("Error uploading file: $!\n")) { print "Reading: $size<br>"; $size+=$bytesread; $content.=$buffer; print "Read: $size<br>"; } return $content; } return 1; *************** Here is what I get when I try to use it after selecting a file. *************** Image filepath length: 44 Image File: C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\Ian Parker Hermonat 2.jpg Content-type: text/html Software error: Error uploading file: Bad file descriptor Anybody else get these types of errors? Please help. Thank you, Bill

Not Sure If Im Registered Or Not
HCSuperStores replied to nuenrdesinez's topic in Pre-Sales Questions
Hi nuenrdesinez, I'm new here but I've read that they don't do debit cards or checking account withdrawls. Just credit card and MC&Visa & Paypal. I'm sure a Tech will see this. It's possible that they reserved your domain name for you so you wouldn't loose it. Just hang on here ... someone will respond soon. -
More Power! - Interfacing With Cpanel
HCSuperStores replied to HCSuperStores's topic in Pre-Sales Questions
The cron job may help. Instant would be nice ... but I'll look at the CPanel forum when I get a few minutes. Maybe there is someone in there who might know something. Any additional input is welcome! Thnx, Bill -
Hi All, I'm admitadly a newbie here, but I've been into computers before the word "geek" was considered a compliment. All my life, and even before my professional career, software development has been it for me. The web opened up the option for many to dive in and be something big. I was one of them. My web business, not to be confused with other software business, began in 1999. Since then I've gone through a few hosting companies. Some were restrictive ... actually most were. Not many allowed the hands on, dig in approach. If they did, it cost some major bucks. I've been locked out due to technical difficulties, had my sights down for weeks, had e-mail that was down more than up, and places I had to contact just to update the permissions on a new script. As Linux became popular I moved in that direction and started to expand ... but still affordable hosting options were just not quite there. Recently I've checked out a bunch of WHM/CPanel arangements - reseller accounts. Honestly, most prices are about the same as they are here. That's if you don't mind paying in Rupels! Ok, there were a few US Comps out there ... just a few. I Singed up for one ... I'm still waiting for them to install a Perl module. Yes, still waiting. During the wait I found TCH. In less than 24 hours my account was set up (that happened in 2 hours), I installed my software, had TCH install 2 Perl modules, chatted with tech support about a couple of small things, and had my entire system up and running. Truthfully I can't speak for the long haul. But what I see so far is well ... impressive. I've tried 5 or 6 different services. I've NEVER had a server this fast before. As much as 2 or 3 times faster. It's eye-opening. I'm also amazed that this forum exists. The fact that it does says something. I could be here, just blasting the company out of the water. Sure, they could remove it in time. But who knows how many people would see it. The fact that I can write this tells me that they have nothing to hide. If you have an issue, you can speak your mind. I'm also one that looks more for a relationship, rather than the right price. It looks like I may have been lucky to find both. Ok ... I'm ramling now. There's more I could write, but I'll wait. For the future, I'd be willing to help other Perl developers out there. I have 20 yeas of expereince in about 8 different languages. Software is my thing. But you'd have to get to me through e-mail or Yahoo IM. But I'd be happy to contribute. TCH - all you techs - keep up the good work. I think you got a good thing going. :heart For me, I think it's love at first Byte. Bill

Ssl & Ssh - Price/installation/time-frame
HCSuperStores replied to HCSuperStores's topic in Pre-Sales Questions
That's really not good news about the SSH. Hmm ... What was the problem that it had to be taken away? -

Ssl & Ssh - Price/installation/time-frame
HCSuperStores replied to HCSuperStores's topic in Pre-Sales Questions
Why the $35? I thought the WHM automated the process of installation? -- Ok .... understood. I'll wait to hear your answer on the SSH. What has been the concern with SSH? I thought I read somwhere on your site that you were letting people use it and then took it away. What happened? -
Dear Support, I like what you appear to have going on here. This has been the environment that I've been looking for. However, I have some technical requirements. So even the most freindly hosting service won't work if they can't meet my technical needs. I'm look at signing up for a reseller account. I need a place to host mutliple domains and allow them to share the system while still allowing seperate domain names. The WH and C-panel provides this. 2 hang-ups have plagued me so far though. 1) SSL - I may need multiple SSL certificates for my clients. I need to know what the process is that you offer through SSL. Some companies lock you into a certain pricing structure with their own certificate provider, even though WH has the ability to establish your own. Then they charge an installation price for something that is automated most everywhere else. What do you guys do? 2)SSH - Although I could live without it, it has become a LIFE SAVER when the need arises to debug and fix software issues ... and it can be done in no-time. I'm a VIP user and make changes to my code as needed using this method. Please help and answer these questions quickly. I'm making a choice in the next couple of days and you would help me out greatly if you gave some positive answers! If the technical issues work out, from what I've seen we'll get along famously! Thank you! Bill
