  1. Yes, it's good for uploading & downloading, but when I first used it, I discovered I couldn't change permissions using it. I checked out Help and did a search for permissions, but no luck. In the end, I downloaded SmartFTP, which allowed me to change permissions (had to check out the tutorials for it 'cuz there were so many features doing different things).

  4. Went ahead and tried it. And now I'm stuck on something else. Nothing relating to security. Thanks for your help. EDITED: I've finished installing it
  5. I assume that it means that I can add the .suexec file into the public_html directory through ftp program? In other words, how do I add it? All I know, is that I need to create .suexec file. I'm not too familiar with how .suexec works, so any do's or don'ts suggestions would be helpful as I try to follow instructions in the documentation and implement it. And I'll make sure I set permissions to 755 for cgi files. Wait a second... In the documentation it says Use cgiwrap OR suexec, so if I use cgiwrap (otherwise known as CGI Wrapper in CPanel) which creates scgi-bin directory, and I use that, then I don't need to worry about suexec.
  6. Really? They cost only 5 bucks? I have no idea how much they cost, much less touched or play with them. I've only heard of it. Unfortunately, I don't know what 5 bucks pays for either. Of course, it's only a game idea - don't mind me.
  7. There was a mention of problems relating to scgiwrap in MovableType Support forum within the past year. From what I've read, users have had to devise workarounds or something. Some quotes about bugs in comments: I don't know if bugs were fixed. I'm only trying to avoid future trouble once I set it up.
  8. The following are some things that I thought were good ideas: - Good reason why you need that computer --> Good, but not fun. - photo contest. Best digital photo wins the prize. --> what about all those people who are new to cameras or don't have one? - How about a lottery/raffle --> Nice idea, but... not for me. - a small scavanger hunt within TCH to look for hidden things --> Great idea, and practice looking for all those itty, bitty, overlooked details. - who can make the coolest Mr. Potatoe Head.--> No can do. What about all those people who don't have it? - Name that tune --> Limited to those who listen to music & I'm not one of them. My idea: Storytelling. Some people are better at talking, while others are better at writing, so as long the story is told it doesn't matter what method. (oral.. writing.. singing.. etc.) Possible topics - Write/talk about one of most funniest moment that ever happened that you've been through or witnessed. - Write/talk about how you overcame obstacles and making a difference in your life. (truimph against adversity) - Write/talk about the scariest moment in your life. - Write/talk about the worst travel experience you've been through. - Write/talk about the worst vacation experience you've been through. Mind you, I rather like hearing about true life stories, 'cuz it makes me think I'm not alone. Besides, there are lots of stories that people collect as they go through life, which makes an interesting story. After all, we all learn new things by listening to stories. And we, as a society, like to hear about real life experiences and remind ourselves how lucky we are (at least, I do).
  9. I am in the process of installing MovableType, but what I couldn't find much information on whether I could making my website secure. I've looked for cgiwrap, and discovered you had scgiwrap, which is nearly the same thing, and when I did research, I discovered that there was a bug with scgiwrap that makes it difficult to get comments to work. Since I didn't want to chance installing and then discover problems, I looked at other options. There wasn't any mention of using suexec. Or using cgi-bin in the root directory. Or the ability to use cgi scripts outside the cgi-bin directory. I'm assuming that you CAN leave the cgi scripts outside of cgi-bin since there was no mention of it in Third party applications, under Movable Type. Just checking my options here.
