I teach at a K-8 school and have this wacky idea to create a social networking site for internal school use only. If you want to know my lesson ideas, let me know. Here is the app: http://peopleaggregator.com/ Here is the install guide: http://wiki.peopleaggregator.org/Installation_guide Is something like this possible @ TCH? I would use .htaccess to lock down the entire subdirectory and only students would be allowed in. Thanks, kj

thats zactly what i did no workie suspect it's a firewall issue will try 2nite @ home thx

Thanks, done, but I am trying to access our FTP server using http://www.web2ftp.com/ And it's not letting me in with an account I just created. I can't use full FTP here at school due to firewall issues. I use web2ftp with my main TCH account all the time so I know it works. Is it because this user has no rights to the root folder and that's what it's requesting initially? I know I can specify a folder to open in WS_FTP and the like. Thanks as usual for the awesome service! -kj-

Awesome thanks again. Last question. When it says 'add an ftp account' can I specify an EXISTING folder or must a new one be created? If the latter, I can just FTP the stuff down, delete the existing folder, add the ftp user and create the same folder again, and re-upload, right? -kj-

Awesome thanks. I want to set this up: \root (inaccessible except to me) \root\user1 (full rights to user1) \root\user2 (etc.) \root\shared (full rights to a range of users) Can this be done, and if so, is there a FAQ or tutorial somewhere? -kj-

I'd like to be able to set up several accounts (directories) which other people in our school can access. Is this a violation of the TOS? I seem to remember so...

Best from simplicity/ease of use. SEO would be nice. Hmmm. Reading about 301 redirects here gives me pause. We still want some folders under ncs-nj.org to resolve as they stand, we haven't really moved the entire site, just the bulk of the front end. I hear you about the problem page thing. Makes sense. But, when northfield.groupfusion.net has been down before, or slow to load, our redirect page has remained on the screen, at least long enough for people to read the message and see what's up, rather than just getting 'page cannot be displayed.' Hmmmm. Guess I'm staying with the meta refresh tag for now... -kj-

Mods, please move this thread if it's not best here. We've got a new website service for our school, http://northfield.groupfusion.net - ASP model, PHP backend, Ajax powered, quite yummy. We currently have a meta refresh tag in with a brief explanation in our index.html @ http://www.ncs-nj.org and it's working fine. We still have lots of stuff on the TCH domain including PHP stuff like Wordpress blogs, PHP gallery, and of course file storage. What's the best way to do a redirect? I like the meta refresh approach because if the new service is having issues, people can read the explanatory text. If I used an .htaccess redirect, I'd lose that capability, right? Just wonderin' Thanks, kj

Using A Tch Account W/o Domain Name
kjarrett replied to kjarrett's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Hi Tim. I sorta get it... Our provider's URL is http://northfield.groupfusion.net. That's not going to change. We want http://www.ncs-nj.org to point to their servers. I know a little about the A records, and I think TCH handles that for us. According to DNSStuff: Searching for ncs-nj.org A record at h.root-servers.net [128.63.2.53]: Got referral to tld3.ultradns.org. (zone: org.) [took 8 ms] Searching for ncs-nj.org A record at tld3.ultradns.org. [199.7.66.1]: Got referral to ns2.totalchoicehosting.com. (zone: ncs-nj.org.) [took 5 ms] Searching for ncs-nj.org A record at ns2.totalchoicehosting.com. [65.254.32.122]: Reports ncs-nj.org. [took 19 ms] Does that mean TCH handles our A records? Thanks for the reply... -kj- -
Currently have our school website, www.ncs-nj.org here. We have contracted with a specialty provider of PHP-based school websites, Schoolfusion.com, for our new site, which I am building now. I believe we still want to maintain our existing TCH account so we can do blogs, galleries, and other PHP fun stuff. However, we want www.ncs-nj.org to point to the new server once the phase one build is complete. What do I have to change when we are ready to do this (NOT NOW...) Will I be able to refer to the TCH site simply by its IP? That would be fine ... I have no desire to reserve another domain name. Thanks in advance, -kj-

Thanks Andy, is this still the TCH position? -kj-
-
Yep, been using it for over a month. Wurks grate.

Indeed, I was able to fix the problem with a complete reinstall from scratch (non-Fantastico). I only lost about six hours' work. Good thing, too, since if I had built the site I am planning to (for my school), and this happened, I'd jump out a friggin' window... Props to TCH for their speedy assistance as always... -kj-

I'm totally with you - what I am not sure about is how the upgrade process will CHANGE as a result of Fantastico, that's all. You know what Wordpress requires - deleting certain folders and not others - I just am not sure how it will work with Fantastico. -kj- -
Actually I did not. I just tried it on another box that does not have ZoneAlarm and it is still happening. I am now turning my attention to my router. This is no fun. :/ I will amend the ticket and ask the rep to confirm he can get in fine, if so, problem is definitely at my end, but I am not yet convinced that is the case. -kj-

Joomla! Multiple Vulnerabilities

Thanks Bruce that makes sense, however, in my experience, the updates often require running of special scripts once the archive is uncompressed (and other steps are taken, i.e., deleting of certain existing files, not all). I'm thinking about Wordpress specifically here. Just wondering how this all will work. -kj- -
Disregard - problem is Zone Alarm! Working on it now...

Quick question. I see this refers to an older version of Joomla so it's not an issue for right now, but ... assuming we use Fantastico to install our Joomla's here ... does that mean TCH will do all future upgrades when new releases are available? If not, what will the upgrade process be? Sorry if this has been asked before. Thanks, kj -
Hi all, LOVE the Fantastico installer, holy cow this thing is awesome. I have my Joomla site up and running: http://www.kevin-jarrett.net But am encountering odd problems with the login form. I will submit a ticket but wanted to post here as well. Yesterday, I could (mostly) log in as admin with no problems. I did however notice some odd behavior in the users window ... it would routinely show 'admin' logged in more than once. Never thought about it much. Today, I cannot log in via the login form, I can ONLY get in via the http://www.kevin-jarrett.net/administrator login form. After that all is well, until I close my browser. I'm no web developer but this sounds like some sort of sessions problem. Happens with IE and FireFox. Can anyone help? See this thread also: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,7452.0.html Thanks, kj

Thank you.

Can ANYONE using Server 53 that has Ultimate Form Mail running verify that their script is working? TCH tells me there is no problem, and the developer has tested my account personally and claims there is nothing wrong. Finger pointing in both directions isn't helping. I completely understand why it's happening. Just sucks to be me at this point. :/ Again, if ANYONE can verify they have this script running on Server 53, I'd be much obliged.
