  1. SUCCESS!!!! The only trick was having to enter in the WP setup page the the email username for the account I created as identified via cpanel: myusername+**** note the "+" sign... Initially I had just myusername there and it did not work. Now it does! Here's the proof! http://www.storyofmysecondlife.com/ Thanks! -kj-
  2. Workin' on it right now!
  3. So simple ... perfect ... thanks!
  4. Hi all, I'd like to set up my Wordpress blog to allow posting via email. It's explained here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Blog_by_Email I'm generally comfortable with cpanel ... is there a howto or faq somewhere? I searched and found a few threads but didn't locate what I needed. Thanks! -kj-
  5. D'OH! You're right. Sorry!!!
  6. Also - FWIW, I had been using WS_FTP Pro 8.03 ... it worked fine most of the time ... but when it started having connection issues ... what a POS ... I thought about paying for the latest one, but, it looks like awful bloatware ... so, I went with FileZilla (http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla/) - free, open source ... and had MUCH better luck. Apparently FZ is more adept at recovering from transmission problems. It was able to complete transfers when WS_FTP was not. I had to use CPANEL and unzip for the problem above because my account was locked due to too many connections, but, I am betting I could have used FZ to successfully transfer. Just a heads up.
  7. Holy )(*&)(*#&%)#($#% I have been having a rough time FTPing today. A tracert here showed nothing... http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/tracert.ch?i...vin-jarrett.net I ended up doing what Don suggested, but, it's a PITA workaround at best. Can I presume that when a zip file is uncompressed via cpanel that the destination file, if it exists, is ALWAYS overwritten, regardless of date/time? This is where the upload/unzip solution falls apart. If the user makes a mistake and overwrites a newer file with an older one, all you-know-what might break loose. If in fact this is a routing issue, is there nothing that can be done? FWIW, I am noticing some other problems getting to different sites ... so I'm certainly not blaming TCH. Y'all are doing a great job. Especially the tech who just reset my FTP account for me because I'd somehow used up my 8 connections. Don't ask me how... Thanks for listening, -kj-
  8. You and me both. I'm hoping Thomas or some other crack TCH'er will come in here and explain what's going on and either let us know we're good or that we need to follow those 'install hardening' guidelines presented in the Joomla forum. -kj-
  9. FYI: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,133517.0.html There is mention of a cpanel vulnerability, but I don't know if that's the reason for these attacks ... if it is, I'm sure we're not to worry, as TCH would have applied any cpanel patch the moment it was released. Any idea what could be going on here? Here is a link to the Joomla Security forum: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/board,267.0.html Lots of good info there... -kj-
  10. I am officially an idiot. I uploaded htaccess.txt and never renamed it as .htaccess - fixed that and all warnings are gone. Damn! Been a while since I goofed up that badly. All warnings are gone, but, there have been a disturbing round of Joomla 1.0.12 hacks recently, I'll post a link to the support form thread in another message here. Thanks! -kj-
  11. Hi Thomas, I wonder if you can help me. I have to Joomla installs here @ TCH (separate servers, separate sites). One is in a folder. The other is in the root. I just updated both to 1.0.12. One of them has the "PHP register_globals setting is `ON` instead of `OFF`" warning. The other does not. The misbehaving site has globals.php properly configured as above, AND the .htaccess file with >php_flag register_globals off entered on its own line, not commented out. Yet, the warnings persist on that site. No warnings at all on the other. The one with the warning is the install in the root. The one without the warning is in a folder. I've verified the files in question are identical and exist in the proper locations in both sites. Any idea what I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance, -kj-
  12. Thanks Andy. So all of that stuff is enabled/doable? Cool. We won't have many users, maybe a couple of dozen initially. If the software takes off, it could grow quite a bit, but not until next year. Appreciate the fast response as always. Peace, kj
  13. Thinking about getting this going for our K-8 school. Saw the install requirements and was wondeirng if there would be any problems with using it here. http://elgg.org/installing.php Comments? TIA, -kj-
  14. Thanks Bill! Good hunting!
  15. Just thought I'd add ... I have every confidence in TCH tech support, and I can't even begin to know how complex a problem this is to solve ... bottom line ... it is solvable ... it has to be! I just referred a new customer to TCH for their association (currently hosted at http://www.sshrmanj.org) ... I plan to build them a Wordpress blog ... if the server they were assigned has the same issues as 316, I wouldn't be able to deploy ... please guys, don't let me down! -kj-
  16. Thanks Thomas. Ticket is as far as I know open. I will forward them your test installation info (they'll contact you for logon credentials I'm sure.) Meanwhile, I have the luxury of a second account here on TCH, and I moved my most critical blog there (server 53): http://www.ncs-tech.org/blogs/zoo/ All is well ... for now. I don't want to have to move all my other blogs and will be requesting a server move if this isn't resolved promptly. Clearly the problem is at TCH's end, on server 316. All I did was export the database, FTP the files over, and import the database (after a simple global search-and-replace). EVERYTHING works, including all my plugins. I guess when you run third party scripts you have to be adept at providing your own tech support. ;-) Thanks again. -kj-
  17. Thanks Thomas. Does it list the "default" theme as having any problems, like, "Stylesheet Missing?" I like ShadedGrey too and use a variant of that on my personal blog. ;-) I am in the process of moving my one critical blog to my other TCH account on Server 53. If that works, perhaps a server move will address my issue. However, I am concerned that some future scheduled change to 53 will cause the problem to appear there. Again, thanks, and good morning, fellow early bird! -kj-
  18. Update: No resolution yet and tech support now wants me to "contact the vendor." I'm running a production server here guys for a 1,100 student K-8 school with a dozen blogs and we've been a customer since 2003. Guys, come on. I just referred a new customer to TCH this week for a Wordpress blog I've proposed to build and maintain for their organization. Did I make a mistake? There has to be a fix. HELP....
  19. It's 9pm EDT, I'm off to bed, will be up around 3am, hoping for an update between now and then ... peace y'all -kj-
  20. No need for another test. I have a dozen blogs on that server some of which haven't been touched for months and every one I checked has the exact same issue. Help Deskers are already on the job. I just hope they fix it soon. They always come through in the end. Fingers crossed...
  21. *CONFIRMED* *BRAND-NEW WORDPRESS 2.0.4 INSTALL VIA FTP NOT FANTISTICO HAS THE EXACT SAME ISSUE* *NO PLUGINS - JUST THE BASE CODE* SCREENSHOT: http://www.ncs-nj.org/temp/server316-test-...install-bad.gif YES I KNOW I AM USING ALL CAPS I AM EXTREMELY UPSET - WE MISSED A LAUNCH TODAY BECAUSE OF THIS I KNOW THE TCH TEAM IS WORKING ON THE ISSUE AS WE SPEAK, GO TEAM GO THANK YOU ALL ARRRRRRHGGGGGHGHG!!!! AAAACCCCCKKKK PTHHHHFFFFFPPPTT!!!! (hairball)
  22. Ticket opened...thanks for your help. I'd try a WP reinstall as a test but I can't from school as we have FTP blocked. -kj-
  23. BTW I just double-confirmed this is happening on all my blogs on Server 316. That's the common thread. Some of these have been closed and not changed for months. I know you all don't support third party scripts but should I open a ticket anyway?
  24. I've never had any problems either, Bruce, and have been running WP here on TCH for several years. The issue is happening on ALL MY BLOGS on Server 316 (several for school as well as my own personal blog). I have another blog on server 53 that is not affected. Screenshots: This is how it is supposed to look: (server 53 is unaffected) http://www.ncs-nj.org/temp/server53-ok.gif This is how it looks on server 316: http://www.ncs-nj.org/temp/server316-not-ok.gif This confirms the file referenced above as "missing" is in fact present: http://www.ncs-nj.org/temp/server316-cpanel.gif Sounds to non-technical me that a some sever-wide database setting is muffed. Should I open a ticket? -kj-
  25. Is anyone else having issues with Wordpress blogs hosted at TCH? I just posted this longish support request @ wordpress.org: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/91600 I realize TCH does not support third party scripts so I am not going to submit a ticket. I just find it really odd that several of my blogs, all hosted here, have the exact same problem - and I've not changed a thing on most of them. The Zoo blog was going to launch today. Thanks in advance, -kj-
