Hi, is your account hosted here at TotalChoice? We are having a hard time understanding what help you need. You say you are using Putty. If you are hosted at TCH do you have a dedicated server? Because we do not allow shell access on virtual accounts. We can't give answers to how other hosting companies systems may be configured.

Yes, the ports are blocked for both in/out. As for your command check out the Backup FAQ and download a copy of the dbsender.zip file and see how it does it. Basically you output to a file and then zip the file not pipe the output through compression and then output it.

If you are on a shared server you will not be able to get SFTP to work because it is not available as it requires ssh (secure shell access). Also non-standard ports on the servers are locked. You will have to use FTP or email.

Yes, where ever you have the statement fopen statement replace the http://yousite.ext/ with what I have above.

You can't fopen a file using http protocol. Change your fopen to the full path to the file /home/YOURUSERNAME/public_html/todaycounter.txt
