  1. Wow, thanks much for that advice! I had been unable to figure out the Spambox feature before but now I've got it working great. Sweet!
  2. Aha, just this morning I had the same thing happen to me. I received four unrouted e-mails at my main account address and wondered what it was about. Noticed the existence of /cgi-sys/formmail.pl and was worried that it was being compromised, but I've just now found this thread wherein Bill says that the attempts to send mail never actually succeed, and the mail never leaves the server. Whew! Knowing I'm not the only one with this problem and that it can no longer be successfully exploited with the latest cPanel patches, I'll go close that help desk ticket I opened about it. Thanks for all the information!
  3. Hi there, I'm finally ready to move my sites to TCH! Since I have two domain names for two separate sites, I need two accounts here. I've ordered one on the Silver Plan just fine, but when I tried to order the second one (also a Silver Plan), the system warned me that a duplicate transaction was found. I am aware of this, since I just submitted an order for domain #1. My question is, if I click "Process Again", will it actually process my first order for Domain #1 again? Or will it place my order for Domain #2 as I expect? I just don't want to get billed twice for the first domain, and not have my second one go through right. Please advise! Thanks, -B.J.
  4. Excellent photos, all! Wow! I love old cars....
  5. Thanks all! One thing (of many) that I love about TCH is the forums. I was really impressed when I saw the community here; it's really great. The host I'm with right now has a decent community too, but it feels very businessy, some people get adversarial over server issues and it's not the kind of place you would hang out in your spare time. These forums are totally different and I look forward to checking in often! Everybody here is really cool! Rock Sign
  6. Hi Bill, Thanks for the mega fast response! Yes indeed, that clears everything up perfectly. I checked out your AUP did some browsing of the forums and I understand, as you pointed out, that directing multiple domain names at different sub-directories is not allowed, and that's fine with me -- and as a result I intend to open two accounts, one for Domain A and another for Domain B. I simply wanted to make sure it would be okay if I gave my friend permission to put up a page or two on Domain B. From what I can tell you've done a great job with this hosting company, everybody here on the forums is great (this is one of the best message board systems I've ever seen, BTW) and I noted very little evidence of any technical troubles. Just as soon as I can dream up a creative domain name, you'll have two new accounts coming your way. Thumbs Up Thanks again for all the great work!
  7. Hi folks! Brand new to the boards. Shortly I will be purchasing a new domain name, at which I intend to host a brand new personal website for myself. I already own one domain, but wish to convert it into something else. So I'm thinking of opening up an account here at TCH for my new domain. Have a question though. I absolutely love everything I've read about TCH -- you certainly do seem to be the ultimate web host, and I've searched far and wide for more than three years for that very thing -- but when I read you don't allow subdomains to point at sites belonging to friends or family members, I got worried. It's not that I don't understand your wish to take those friends or family on as additional paying customers -- I simply have a very poor friend with absolutely nothing to his name, and for the last couple of years I've been allowing him to put his little personal web page on a subdomain of my primary domain name (at various other hosting companies). Recently, I saw that Bill posted this thread which seemed to suggest (although did not state outright) that it would now be all right to erect a subdomain as a little area for a friend or relative, so long as it was used for a legal purpose. By "legal purpose", I presumed that to mean "non-criminal" in regards to state or federal law. My friend basically has a single-page website where he posts a bit about his life (or lack thereof, I'm sorry to say) once in a while. Curiously, I noticed that this again became a topic of debate approximately a week after the aforementioned policy change thread was posted, and no official, final resolution seemed to appear. So, I guess I need a little official clarification from the TCH staff before I take any steps. To wit: Under the new subdomain policy, is it acceptable for me to allow my friend to put a couple of pages up so long as I maintain ultimate control over everything he does and take responsibility for it? The primary domain is simply a self-promotional website, presenting my resume and soforth, maybe some samples of my design work. I believe I will still be opening a new account with TCH for my new domain name, but before I also consider moving my old domain (and my friend) here, I want to make sure I wouldn't be breaking any of the rules, new or old. If the subdomain use I've just described is still unacceptable, I will simply keep my old domain hosted elsewhere. And continue my efforts to find my friend a job. Looking forward to hearing from you, and to opening my new account (possibly two) -- now I just have to figure out what domain name I'm gonna buy. Thanks in advance!
  8. Thanks surefire! Thumbs Up No worries about not being more specific; you couldn't really unless you've done something like this before. Sounds like a good approach to take though. The file upload is not really essential to the first release of the site, however, so perhaps I'll defer it for a little bit. But if I do manage to make something like that work, I can share the mods I made to the script. Someone else might find it useful.
  9. Hi all, I'm brand new to the board here. I'm designing a website for a client and recommended he switch from a Windows/IIS-based host to TCH. Now that the domain has propagated and I'm finishing up the design, I had a question for you gurus in here. We're having a contest, in which we ask users to submit around 10 photos to us (in JPEG format). My question is, what's the best way to get those photos? Asking them to e-mail us one or two photos would be okay, but we're asking for at least 10 and I don't want that kind of traffic going through e-mail. My question is, should I use some sort of PHP script that provdies a form on the site, where people can select 10 files from their computer? Or should I somehow give them access via a special FTP account? I am inclined to think that a PHP script would be better and more secure, but all of the free scripts I've seen only handle uploading one file at a time. I'd prefer to put somewhere on the order of 10 file fields on the same page and let them upload the whole lot. Is there a problem with timeouts/length of transaction in that case? And if so, can anyone advise me as to how to handle it? A disclaimer: While I'm good with HTML/CSS and graphic tools, I'm basically a PHP newbie who has dabbled only in JavaScript and the ancient art of GW-BASIC, so I'm a designer first and a programmer second. Don't need much hand-holding because I learn quick, though, so feel free to fire away. BTW: From what I can see, TCH is a really great host. I think I'm going to open two new accounts here next month for my own personal websites. I ran through the system status pages on all of your servers and they'll all running with only moderate load and very little disk swap usage. That's so nice to see. The server I'm hosted on right now is at 100% / 100% all the time and it makes me nervous. Anyway, thanks in advance!
