Let me see if I understand this, Jim, Bob and Harry are my children and want to each have a website. I have www.thissite.com. So if these are their sites: jim.thissite.com bob.thissite.com harry.thissite.com and none of which are connected, none of the sites are commercial, nor am I charging my sons for the use of the space (ie I'm not reselling). Is this a violation?

In the space of time before I was notified of posts, I set up mySQL on my local machine and love it -- I think I'm going to use it for most everything, but for when I do flat file stuff, I'll keep your suggestions in mind, surefire. I like that .htaccess trick. Oh, and how exactly would you do number 3? (The first 3 in the second list ) I can check the IP and send an email, but how do I trigger it?

I am also experiencing PHP mail() problems. I am using a valid "From:" header, but sometimes, the mail just won't send. The very first time I tried it to my Yahoo account, the mail took over a day to get there, but now it gets there lickity-split. Yesterday, I tried to send email to another account (not yahoo, my dad's work) and some of the emails didn't get sent -- the ones that did took about an hour to get there. How exactly does the mail() command work through tch (is there a website to read how it works?)

Head Bash Basically, I want to allow my PHP pages to read/write some text files , but I don't want browsing people to be able to see the files. I've played with the file permissions on the text files, directories and PHP files. The only way the PHP pages can read/write the text files is if the world (other?) permissions are turned on... but this lets browsers see them too. The group permissions don't seem to do a thing (for the PHP or the browser) Am I going to have to break down and learn mySQL or can some permission group be set up to allow this??
