Deverill Posted May 5, 2004 Posted May 5, 2004 There's a new updated version of Thunderbird - the free email program many of us here use that's under the Mozilla umbrella along with FireFox. If you're looking for an email program check it out. If you have Thunderbird 0.5 get the upgrade. The main site and link to the upgraded version is at www.mozilla.org NOTE: Be careful of the junkmail settings. I upgraded and got a false hit or two so keep an eye on it until you feel comfortable it has retrained itself to your preferences. The false hit I got was a new email that I had never received before so even the older version may have pegged it as spam - I don't know. It has several bug fixes and: a Windows installer a New Default Theme on Mac OS X new Improved Junk Mail Controls to learn faster and catch more spam. a new logo and artwork IMAP changes which allows the mail server to push notifications such as new mail arriving as soon as it arrives. server-wide news filters that apply to all newsgroups on a server. Mail filters can now mark messages as junk. Offline support is an optional download component in the Windows installer and is no longer a separately-downloaded extension. Mac OS X users now get new mail notification in the system dock. and more! Quote
LisaJill Posted May 5, 2004 Posted May 5, 2004 I downloaded this last night; after having lots of problems with .5. It's a great upgrade and I love it to pieces. Works fantastically. =) Quote
youneverknow Posted May 5, 2004 Posted May 5, 2004 I am using Fire Fox and Outlook Express for email . I do this because I have 3 HOTMAIL accounts and OutlookExpress makes it easier to get 3 Hotmail accounts simultaneously than going through 3 sign ins on the MS passport "Feature"...But the filtering is non existant on the Outlook Features. Anyway would Thunderbird be able to be set up to check the 3 free Hotmail acounts I have? And give me filtering??? youneverknow Quote
borfast Posted May 5, 2004 Posted May 5, 2004 Setting up multiple accounts on ThunderBird is a piece of cake. And it's even better than Outlook Express (not difficult, I know... ) because each account gets its own folders but you can customize the whole thing to drop the e-mails to wherever you want As for the filtering, you wouldn't believe how much you can do with ThunderBird's filters... And as if all this isn't enough, there's also the no-more-email-virus incentive! Give it a try for a couple of days. I doubt you'll go back to Outlook Express. Quote
LisaJill Posted May 5, 2004 Posted May 5, 2004 I might also suggest working with the default theme at first. I initially switched to another theme and it was broken and I couldn't make filters from the 'to' address. Switching back to default fixed that; so until you're used to the program and know what it should do, don't play with those .... Frustrating, it was. I thought I was just missing the obvious. Quote
