joly Posted April 30, 2004 Posted April 30, 2004 I was just wondering is there instructions on how to do sub domains? I'm trying to read up on as much as I can on how to do things. Of course I will be doing frontpage. I've looked on the Cpanel where you add your subdomain, which mine would be: purrcity.my-birman.noelle.com but wasn't sure what to do with the redirection fields and when I go to publish from frontpage how do I direct it the above instead of my home page. Thanks for any help! Quote
joly Posted April 30, 2004 Author Posted April 30, 2004 I probably didn't explain it right. I was wanting my sub domain name to be purrcity. So would it be purrcity.my-birman-noelle.com? Or maybe I better just start from the beginning. Is there instructions somewhere on how to create a subdomain (possibly mentioning frontpage)? Thanks! Joly Quote
TCH-Rob Posted April 30, 2004 Posted April 30, 2004 I have never done it using FP, and am not aware of how it may work. I am going to move it to the Front Page forum for better exposure. Quote
joly Posted April 30, 2004 Author Posted April 30, 2004 Boy, do I feel like a dummy! There is so much info here at the forums and I don't know how many times I skipped over and missed it but I found all the tutorials and how to's and I think I can answer my sub domain questions with those. One thing, I didn't understand that it could take awhile to show up when you create one. I know what my Sunday project will be and that is to go thru all the how to's here! Thanks again for everything! Joly Quote
joly Posted May 2, 2004 Author Posted May 2, 2004 I did it! I have my subdomain up with a small website I built as kinda practice. I wasn't planning on doing anything with it til I read about subdomains. I'll probably end up revising it after Noelle's is finished but its up! And it was easy to do! Guess it helps to be patient! Madmanmcp Posted May 2, 2004 Posted May 2, 2004 Joly, FYI your sub-domain is: purrcity.my-birman-noelle.com www.my-birman-noelle.com/purrcity is a sub-folder under your main domain. If you do not define a sub-domain this is how you access it. Once you have defined it as a sub-domain both ways will work. Quote
arvind Posted May 2, 2004 Posted May 2, 2004 Not sure if you defined the subdomain, if you didn't... You define a subdomain via Cpanel under the domains header and then manager subdomains. U specify the name of the subdomain you want and after the dns kicks in your all set Quote
joly Posted May 2, 2004 Author Posted May 2, 2004 Ok, now I'm totally lost......... I looked at my Cpanel, I have Parked Domains, Add on Domains and Subdomains. Subdomains is where I added my purrcity.my-birman-noelle.com When I access my site that way the counter doesn't work. If I access it the other way it does. Gee, what have I done now? Just when I thought I was doing ok. (Its been a frustrating weekend...my dsl was down and they had to come fix it, everything we tried over the phone didn't work.) Any help is truly appreciated. Joly =^..^= Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted May 2, 2004 Posted May 2, 2004 Hi Joly, I don't know if the counter isn't working because you are accessing it via the sub domain (instead of the actual path) and the Frontpage webbot doesn't understand. But here is my opinion on counters. Counters are not necessary since you can access your stats via cPanel and see which pages are being viewed and how many times they have been viewed. Like I said, it's just my opinion. Quote
joly Posted May 3, 2004 Author Posted May 3, 2004 Thanks Bruce, I think I'll remove it then! Less of a headache. LOL I think I'll be glad to go back to work tomorrow! hehe No, really I tend to get easily frustrated over technical problems. I envy yous who keep your cool and have the answer. Joly Quote
