!!blue Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 I just created a subdomain for my blog and named it blog.zoblue.com; how do I make this the address for my blog? Right now it's redirecting to zoblue.com/mt/index.shtml but how can I make the subdomain *be* the blog (e.i. blog.zoblue.com/index.shtml)? Am I making sense? Would I have to rename the "mt" folder to "blog.zoblue.com"? Or is this not possible? I know that having a redirect can bring down your PR... thanks, !!blue Quote
TCH-Rick Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 You would need to make the changes in MT to write the index.shtml file to blog.zoblue.com in the Configuration section for that blog. Quote
!!blue Posted April 12, 2004 Author Posted April 12, 2004 Is that really all I have to do? I thought it'd be this somewhat complex thing. So what u'r saying is that once I change the config in my blog then the whole site would be moved over to the subdomain? So, for example, the address to the news page use to be zoblue.com/mt/news.shtml and when I make the change it will be blog.zoblue.com/news.shtml. Is that right? thanks, !!blue Quote
schussat Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 Yep, it should be pretty straightforward. In your MT "Core Setup," change the local site path (probably to /home/you/public_html/blog, reflecting the directory for your subdomain), then change the site URL and archives paths accordingly (archives might become /home/you/public_html/blog/archives, for example). When you rebuild the entire site, any page that is built by Movabletype should be rebuilt in the new locations. If you've kept the same directory structure, then you can also redirect requests for the old path to your subdomain. Quote
!!blue Posted April 13, 2004 Author Posted April 13, 2004 (edited) Ok, so when I change the config in MT, do I have to change any settings in the database? Sorry to be such a bother but I haven't ever set up a *real* subdomain before. thanks a mil, !!blue ---------edit--------- I got it working, took me a while but I got it working. The log in page for MT tho doesn't have any images. I've added my new subdomin to both htacces and Hotlink Protection so now I just have to wait for it to take effect. but so far so good... thanks a million, trillion to TCH-Rick and schussat!!
