andybro Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 Hello to all, I am trying to install a message forum on my site. Where do I find the correct info to enter in? I thought I knew the info, but what I enter in turns out to be incorrect. I know my DNS number, etc. Can anyone help? Anyone installed one before? Thanks! Quote
shammer Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 installing from cpanel is easy, just click on bulletin board and tell it where to install. I think there is an issue with this though, try doing it this way and if you have a problem just open a help desk ticket. The support folks are usually pretty quick to help out. Quote
tersted Posted February 26, 2003 Posted February 26, 2003 I just installed Invision Board on my site, and following exactly the direction given in the manual there was no problem at all. Quote
twowheels Posted February 26, 2003 Posted February 26, 2003 I recently installed the phpBoard that is listed on cpanel. It seems to work ok. Apparently it's supposed to be a one click thing. You click on "Bulliten Board" there and tell it what subdirectory you want the board installed in. *BUT* I ran into some problems. The installation status kept coming up blank. Bad sign? Apparently. I then got an install dialog when I tried to go to my forum. The middle section was a bit tricky to figure out, but I finally did... if you have that problem, post here w/ what it's asking for and I'll tell you what I ended up putting there. Quote
blackhood Posted March 3, 2003 Posted March 3, 2003 tersted or anybody, I am a little confused by the invision install in these areas: Invision asks me for them: SQL Database Name SQL Username SQL Password what do I put for each of these? Thanks Quote
darkwoof Posted March 3, 2003 Posted March 3, 2003 blackhood: You should find a link in CPanel called "Manage MySQL" under Databases. Click on that. Look for a textfield marked "Db:" and enter a name for the database you want to create for your forum. e.g. "forum". Click on the "Add DB" button. You should now have a database called yourcpanelusername_forum (e.g. "blackhood_forum") If you want to create a new user for the database, you may do it via the "Add User" textfields. Otherwise, you may use any existing users that you may have. Once you got your user, you have to add it to your account. Use the "Add User to Db" drop-down boxes to add a selected user to the selected database. In the Invision Board installation, the Database name would be the name of the database you created for it, e.g. blackhood_forum, the username and password are those that you have added to the blackhood_forum database. It should look something like this: Database Name: blackhood_forum (cpanel appends your cpanel username to the front of the name you specify) Database User: blackhood_theman cpanel appends your cpanel username to the front of the name you specify) Database Pass: abcdefgh Quote
