I couldnt seem to figure out how to add a bulletin board to my subdomain so I added it to my domain then dragged the forums folder over. It comes up like it should but I think I hurt myself patting myself on the back because now when I try now to log into the newly created forums I get an error:

"Not Found

The requested URL /forums/index.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. "

If I look in the forums folder this file is indeed there. I'm doing something wrong. Help would be appreciated.

It sounds like you installed to a root folder which is necessary,

and then moved the folder below another folder.

All the paths are fixed to where it was installed and will only work where you originally installed it.

It may be possible to download the latest version and try to install into a sub-sub-folder.

If you do download, there are install instructions that come with it.

thanks. "tia" was for thanks in advance  .

I did try to open a ticket but was told they had no issues even though I still do. When I was specific about the problems (yes it looks like its looking for some of the files like index.php under the main) they told me they dont support 3rd party software.

I added it via the control panel and the only option was to put it under the main. I guess I'll try to figure out whats up from the PHP website. I was hoping someone here already went through this so I woudnt have to reinvent the wheel.

Oh well.

thx

I think I understand.

Lets say you setup subdomain TEST, then you try to install the phpbb bulletin board and cPanel tells you that there is an error, TEST already exists.

Is this correct.

If so you have to install the bulletin board first(let it create the directory), then go to >Manage Subdomains, and create the subdomain.

Thx for the reply. I ended up deleting phpbb folder. My problems are all based on the fact that I wanted the forums on a sub domain and the simple installation was too simple for my needs :) . I went to the phpbb website and downloaded what I needed then ftp'd it where I wanted it. I then followed their not so intuitive instructions and viola! It works. I'm just here posting the solution so if anyone else comes searching this issue, its here.

So - I found this thread while looking for instructions on setting up a bbs on a sub, but it sounds like there is no easy way to do it. Misnomer's solution was to download the bbs software separately and manually install it in the subdomain folder, which sounds like it wasn't easy.

So for clarification: is there no easy way to install a bbs into a subdomain using cPanel? Any help out there on how to do it manually?
