Hello,

I created a sub-domain on an account.

commtwp.improvelearning.com

I can ftp to improvelearning.com, find the commtwp folder and upload files.

My browser can go to commtwp.improvelearning.com and display the single page I have there.

I set up my ftp program, fetch on my Mac, to the following:

Host: commtwp.improvelearning.com

User id: commtwp

Password: password established in cPanel for user commtwp

I tried Directory: www and I tried leaving Directory blank.

Neither one let me in. I get the message, Error on Password, user authentication failed, sorry.

I want to give access to the commtwp.improvelearning.com subdomain without giving access to the improvelearning.com domain.

Can I do this?

Maybe I need to do something else in setting up the subdomain. I created the subdomain in cPanel and waited for it to propagate. Then, I created the ftp account for commtwp in cPanel.

Thanks

Sorry about this posting.

After I posted, I went back to try again. On the FTP Account Maintenance page, I noticed the following:

When logging into the ftp server please use the username exactly as it appears below. If the username includes a "@", make sure to include it when logging in. Example: Use "john@doe.org" and not "john".

So, the mistake was mine. I didn't read carefully enough.

The user name needs to be commtwp@improvelearning.com rather than just commtwp which is what I was using out of habit.

Maybe this will help someone else.

Thanks

Glad you figured it out,

it can be confusing.

So to summarize:

in cpanel,

create the sub-domain,

then create the ftp account.

Then for ftp setup:

Site name:

anything you want to describe the account

Host:

ftp.example.com

user name:

xyz@example.com

Password:

********

remote directory:

is left blank

This will take the ftp user to the sub domain and will not be able to access the rest of your account.
