Scpdcom Posted February 18, 2004 Posted February 18, 2004 Ok. I rented an entire box from servermatrix.com Now i am hosting my own server. The only problem is. If i want to start. or stop the server i would have to go to remote desktop, login, lag the server, etc. I want to be able to just click a link on a protected part of my website and click STOP, or START. It is possible because i have seen it and used it through vskgamingservers.com. But i dont have access to that anymore. So if you have any ideas on scripts, cronjobs ANYTHING i am open for suggestions. Quote
DarqFlare Posted February 19, 2004 Posted February 19, 2004 ... Wow. I must have missed when we becamse a tech support place for non-TCH customers... Anyway... I don't have a great deal of experience with that, but here's the kind of thought process I'm having: 1) Build a PHP/Perl/ASP/"anything" script. 2) Place it in an HTACCESS/HTPASSWD protected directory 3) Configure the script to either shut down the server itself, or call an executable on the local machine that starts/stops the server. Scpdcom Posted February 19, 2004 Author Posted February 19, 2004 BTW i am a customer. but Thnx. Can you give me a specific place to download these scripts?? I am running windows 2000 Server on my servers. Quote
TCH-Rob Posted February 19, 2004 Posted February 19, 2004 BTW i am a customer Sorry, it was hard to tell in the message and that host wasn't us. Try hotscripts.com, google or you may have to write it. Google gave a number of things that may work but I am unfamiliar with what you are doing to be certain. Quote
ThumpAZ Posted February 19, 2004 Posted February 19, 2004 Are you trying to shut down IIS, just World Wide Web service, or restart the box all together? There are scripts and such out there that will do this for you through a web/XML interface. Just google for "Remote IIS shutdown" You could also download and use VNC from AT&T/Bell Labs on your local machine and server to use a sort of Terminal Server session into the box. As VNC is not widely used, it is not really messed with... and it's free. I use VNC all day in my work and it works fine, except while you are in a box, the processor is highly utilized. Quote
Scpdcom Posted February 19, 2004 Author Posted February 19, 2004 what i want to do is to be able to give access to this webpage or program to a friend. So he/she could log in and start or stop a gaming server ran on my dedicated server. i found a couple leads but still need some help. Quote
