ulanji Posted February 10, 2004 Posted February 10, 2004 Greetings all! I send out a fairly large number of emails to my clients. I utilize the BCC field to protect the privacy of each client. Today, I suddenly received the following error message with a fairly large-scale mailout: "This message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. Server Response '550 Authentication turned on in your email client." I did not modify any of the settings in my Outlook client, at least manually. I've recently had a bout of viruses, and it's possible that Norton changed some of the settings. I am pretty novice when it comes to all things email, so I'm not sure what to do. This is a pretty big problem because I cannot be sending out duplicate emails. Doing so looks unprofessional, it can annoy my clients, plus it adds unneeded internet traffic. Any insight? Thanks in advance for any help! Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted February 10, 2004 Posted February 10, 2004 A 550 response means one of the addresses you are sending to no longer exists. Quote
youneverknow Posted February 10, 2004 Posted February 10, 2004 I believe there is a limit of 50 emails per 300 seconds lapse time. If you are doing a Large mailing ( as you say) this could be the problem. I'm sure some TCH expert will confirm this. (to eliminate spammers) Quote
MikeJ Posted February 10, 2004 Posted February 10, 2004 A 550 response means one of the addresses you are sending to no longer exists. 550 code is actually used for many different cases, including user does not exist, but it's also used for relaying denied, and other error states (like above). TCH-Bruce Posted February 10, 2004 Posted February 10, 2004 (edited) Hmm, thank you Mike. I just sent 900 emails yesterday to my customer list and every bad address came back as a 550. Didn't know it also referred to relaying. Edited February 10, 2004 by TCH-Bruce Quote
MikeJ Posted February 10, 2004 Posted February 10, 2004 550 is used pretty generically. Some sites even use the same 550 error code for returning a SPAM Block response. Quote
