mike Posted February 7, 2004 Posted February 7, 2004 HI Folks. Rock Sign Here's a hoot: I was using Ace Html 5, freebie and it seemed to work pretty well. I decided to download the trial of Cute Html Pro and try IT. IT LOOKS THE SAME AS ACE !!!!! Anybody know about that? Just an observation whilst in the search for the best program to design with. thanks Quote
MikeJ Posted February 7, 2004 Posted February 7, 2004 Hmm.... my html editor of choice is still VI. One of these days I should try something new. Quote

MikeJ Posted February 7, 2004 Posted February 7, 2004 VI (stands for "VIsual editor" so you can get an idea of how old it is) is a Unix editor. It's pretty cryptic (but powerful if you know how to use it). It is found on virtually all installations of Unix, Linux, etc... It's not an HTML editor, it's just a text editor, kinda like using Notepad on a windows machine to code HTML. However, recent decendants of VI (like VIM, VI iMproved) have added a lot to the original editor including color coding so it's easy to spot missing tags, open quotes, etc... I wouldn't recommend VI to anyone who doesn't do a lot of work in a Unix environment though. The learning curve is rather steep. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted February 7, 2004 Posted February 7, 2004 (edited) VI is a text editor from the *nix world. Comes with every *nix OS. There are versions available for Windows, I use the one provided with the MKS Toolkit. (Mortice Kern Systems). They have a whole suite of *nix commands for Windows. www.mks.com Edited February 7, 2004 by TCH-Bruce Quote
