motarque Posted February 5, 2004 Posted February 5, 2004 Hey all, so far my experience w/ TCH has been excellent. I've only been onboard here for a couple weeks, but I do feel like family here. It really is great. I'm just starting out here and I'd like to ask for some advice. my website is Sorb Computersand I've actually uploaded a very basic site that is most definitely a work in progress, so if links don't work, that's probably why. Here's my question(s): As you can see from this website (http://www.globuscomputer.com), there is a navigation "bar" on the left side of the page, information (w/ links) in the middle of the page, and "Specials" on the right side of the page. I want to do something similar to that on my site, but the only way I can get information to be spread across like that is by using tables. Am I simply missing something that is really easy here, or are tables the only way to solve this? Any help would be appreciated. If you take a look at my main page on my site, i've split things up by using a table. I'd prefer to not have to use tables if I can, and from what I am seeing, surely there's a way to do it. Ok, I'll stop rambling. Thank you! Quote
MikeJ Posted February 5, 2004 Posted February 5, 2004 The example you provided (Globus Computer) actually does use tables to get that format. However, what you are probably looking for are what is called Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). This would prevent the need of having to create tables, and allow a lot more flexibility in layout design. I don't use Frontpage (or for that matter, I don't use any design package) so I can't really tell you how to do it in Frontpage. But if you search around on the internet for CSS tutorials, and look into some getting started with CSS books, you'll open up a whole new world of page design to yourself. Quote
motarque Posted February 5, 2004 Author Posted February 5, 2004 CSS, gotcha. Thank you. I'll do a little research and see what I can find. So they were using tables, huh...ok, well i guess it was a bad example, but yes, thank you for helping me out. Quote
